We recently returned from an 8-night private photographic charter onboard Flightless through the remote reaches of Dusky Sound, Fiordland — and I can honestly say it was the trip of a lifetime. From the moment we arrived by chopper into this pristine, remote corner of Fiordland, we knew we were in for something special. Each day brought a new adventure — from hikes through untouched landscapes to kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, or watching the dolphins. The Flightless itself was incredibly comfortable — spotlessly clean, warm, and thoughtfully designed. Our cabin with ensuite was a real luxury, and the outdoor deck (complete with heaters!) made for the perfect place to relax and take in the surrounds after a big day. And then there was the food. As a self-confessed foodie, I was absolutely blown away. Justine served eight days of restaurant-quality meals — no repeats, always thoughtful, very creative, and deeply satisfying. Her knowledge and care for what she creates is exceptional. The crew were outstanding — warm, knowledgeable, professional, and yet felt like friends from the start. There was a clear passion not just for guest experience, but for the environment, conservation, and sharing this special part of the world in the most respectful and sustainable way. Pure Salt offers the perfect balance of professionalism and heart. Whether you're a photographer, an adventurer, or just someone craving wild beauty and genuine connection — this is an experience like no other. We would absolutely return, and I’m already eyeing off one of their culinary-focused trips for next time. If you have the chance to join a voyage with Pure Salt, take it — you won’t regret it.

We had a wonderful 5 day, 4 night cruise with Pure Salt in September 2024. We were a mixed group of divers, fishermen, snorkelers and kayakers and we all got to indulge in our favourite activities. In addition we went ashore at various places to see historic sites and learn about the amazing conservation work Pure Salt are doing. Our en suite cabins were comfortable and warm, the crew friendly, helpful and very competent and the 26m ship very well equipped with everything we needed. The catering was amazing with something new and delicious every day for lunch and dinner, including crayfish and freshly caught blue cod (thankyou Courtney, divers and fishermen). We had 3 nights in Preservation Inlet and then we steamed up the Fjordland coast to Dusky Sound for a final night. It was so great to be in such a remote and beautiful place and yet so comfortable. The ship is a great sea boat and rides very comfortably (although the sounds are very calm). We enjoyed chatting with Sean, one of the owners and the skipper Brad about all things conservation and boats. We loved our trip and would recommend Pure Salt to those who love boats, outdoor activities and water sports.

Perhaps the most unassuming adventure but by far the most rewarding. Fiordland let alone Tamatea/Dusky is not on most people's radar but without a doubt having made the trip, it 100% needs to be on everyone's list. Not just because it's hard to find solitude these days but to take the time to really appreciate the work and dedication that Maria and Sean, and the whole PureSalt team are single handedly pursuing. They are truly heroes in this time of environmental and climate change apathy. But it is also an absolute revelation that too many of us think of "pureNZ" as this clean green beautiful country and as Kiwis we are ambassadors or sorts, yet the truth is, NZ is so far down the ecological toilet, knowing (ie. Visiting Tamatea Dusky) brings you to your knees in tears. PureSalt, at the very least offers a glimmer of hope and credibility that NZ/we can be authentic people worthy to inherit a better world.

The lads and I returned home today after what was an absolutely amazing experience aboard the Flightless. To say we all had the time of our lives would be an understatement. Getting to meet Sean and Maria on our trip out was an added bonus - our sincere thanks to them both for letting us enjoy a fantastic 5 days/ nights aboard.

All of us were blown away by the time we spent in the truly stunning Fiordland environment. The great and very warm hospitality shown to us by the crew was really appreciated. I have received nothing but positive comments from all the guys about how much they enjoyed themselves and valued the very genuine care and good old Kiwi hospitality shown to us by Pete, Brad, Chris and Anna - they were superb! I think we're all going to take a few weeks to get used to not having gourmet meals cooked for us - special thanks to Anna and Chris for those culinary delights - top notch! The odd spot of history didn't go amiss either - thanks Brad.

Definitely a 'bucket list' experience now well and truly ticked off.

Thanks again Toni for all you did organising things ahead of our trip and again to Pete, Brad, Chris and Anna for their great company and the good times enjoyed whilst on board.

Nga mihi nui,

Adam, Brad (#2), Kane, Paul, G, Grant, Brent, Quent, Darren and...

A true bucket list trip. As a diver of 25 years and an ex commercial diver I would say I experienced the best diving in NZ, when topside I enjoyed unparalleled scenery and all from a huge well appointed vessel with modern cabins.

There is so much to say about this charter, from the relaxed, friendly staff to the abundance of wild life. But what I think is unique to Pure Salt is the exquisite dinning experience. Every lunch and dinner was a 3-course meal, and every course was a journey for the taste buds. As a person who has eaten food around the world from Michelin star restaurants to the fish markets of Hokkaido, I can say that if you are a foodie, and a LOVER OF SEAFOOD, the Pure Salt galley team surpassed all my other dinning experiences.

In our group were many foodies and keen fisherman, so a tough crowd to excite. However, we all came away with new better ways of cooking and preparing Kai Moana.

The defining moment for me was sitting in the hot tub with friends, while enjoying a beer after a successful crayfish dive, to be greeted by Humpback whales breaching the water!

Don't hesitate to jump on the vessel, you will come away from the trip, wondering when you can go away with them again.

I have one compliant..... The extra 2 kg I gained on the trip from so much...
