Hawke's Bay Regional Aquatic Centre — Local services in North Island

Nice pool but not reliable service! It is a beautiful and clean pool to swim, but You can't count on the service availability. Most of the lanes are already sold out to swimming schools. Usually, there are only two or three lanes for public that you will have to share with other public swimmers. Also, you may go there and find out that the pool is closed for some competition etc. They normally don't communicate these events, sometimes they put a notice in their Facebook page, but even that notice is subject to change. This happened to me twice. First time they took my email address and said that they communicate these events via email. I went there today, and it was closed again for some event while I have not received any email from them and also there is no notice in their Facebook page. Awesome facility that was let down by the experience and conditions the competitors, spectators, coaches, managers etc were exposed too was really bad!! The air vent/air con was broken and the chlorine levels were extremely high causing skin irritation, headaches etc the wifi reception is terrible to none so communication was non existent unless you found a hotspot area inside the pool or stood on one foot, otherwise would need to go outside. Amazing facilities with excellent staff. Very grateful to have this on our doorstep. I hope that they build on some community initiatives, particularly for young families. Some combination of baby/toddler swimming classes plus sensory play and outdoor activities to bring families together would be awesome. I've seen the swim classes and they look great.
