There is unfortunately almost no redeeming features of this place.

The receptionist was nice, the beds are comfortable, the shower water gets really hot, the water pressure is good, the flat was well stocked in terms of cutlery and crockery, the middle 37 degree pool has an amazing temperature.

First off, the unit is much smaller and a lot more claustrophobic than what the photos show. If you sit on the couch, you can pretty much touch the TV. You have to suck in your gut to go around the kitchen counter into the kitchen and the 2 bed bedroom.

The shower and toilet cubicle are very small and the handle for the window slats in the toilet cubicle is rusted shut, so you can't open the window for fresh air or steam from the shower. The tap over the sink is so tight to the side of the basin, you can't even fit your hands under it to wash your hands. Everything is a bit sad and dated, and in need of some serious TLC. The toilet is permanently stained brown.

It's great that there are two rooms, but the wall between the two rooms doesn't reach the ceiling, and there is about a half a meter gap, which allows every snore and fart to be heard.

When we wanted to make tea, there was a cockroach in the cupboard. There were so many flies, but this cannot be helped, because they seem to be everywhere in recent years.

We decided to go swim, because this was the ONLY reason we came here.

The receptionist told us there is a big pool at 30 degrees, a smaller pool at 37 degrees and a smaller pool at 39 degrees. Perfect! No. Not at all.

It is very steep and treacherous walking on the wet driveway with no lights. From our unit to the reception is almost pitch black and very steep and muddy.

To get down to the pool you have to navigate about 50 steps and a ramp. Which means it's 50 steps back up. For someone older, heavier, and with mobility issues: this is an absolute nightmare. Even the unit had 4 steps to go to the bathroom, which I wasn't aware of. I suffered very badly and hurt my knee climbing all those stairs and that was the first and last pool visit for our entire stay on day 1. It was devastating. Apparently there is an alternative route to the pool. It's very poorly sign posted and we went into someone's yard and were chased away. Unfortunately this doesn't have less stairs and is not an alternative at all.

We decided to go to the warmest pool. It's about half a meter deep, but the water is only half filled and reaches your shin. Then you have to sit on the ground. There was no way my weight or age would allow this.

The second (middle) pool was a beautiful temperature. The first step into the pool is so very high, almost to my knee, that it took my husband and the railing to heave ho me out of the pool again, because it is just so high. There is no ledge or seating, you just have to stand around inside the pool.

After some 30 minutes, about 20 youths showed up with a heck of a hullabaloo. Splashing into the water, bombing, volleyballs flying all over the place. It was disrupting the calm we came for. We left straight after that and wasn't able to go again, because of the crazy amount of steps.

The wifi was awful. Absolutely terrible. So bad. Just atrocious. I used my data most of the time.

There is absolutely nothing else to do, apart from braving the many many steps to the pool. So we were in the small apartment the whole time.

Cars come and go at all hours of the day and night. It can be 2am or 6pm. It never stops. Being the first unit near the entrance/reception, it was very disruptive.

Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, this cherry picker arrived at 7:30am to do who knows what. It rumbled so much, it shook the whole unit. They beeped up and down and around it, screaming instructions to each other. It was crazy! 7:30am. Why? Nobody wants to wake up with a heart attack.

The lack of accessibility to the pool (for fatties and oldies like me), the small dated accommodation, the terrible wifi and the constant and very early morning noise, made this one of the worst places I've...

Absolutely horrible stay… where do I start. 1: The cell phone blockers: even with reception and unlimited data your unable to use it, this place has somehow blocked all use of personal data therefor making each guest have to purchase 2gig for $10 which is outrageous I pay a phone plan for a reason I shouldn’t have to buy data when I all ready have it! 2: The pictures online are extremely deceiving. My 8 months old single nursery is bigger then the kitchen cabins on-site. We had brown water in the kitchen, there’s clearly no form of insulation as overnight the condensation on the windows was hideous dripping water on the windows, pooling at the bottom. The bed are absolutely horrible hard beds my mother and partner could hardly manage to walk at the end of their restless night (if you have a bad back DO NOT stay here) 3: The bathrooms are disgusting a dribble coming out of the shower and a toilet that wouldn’t flush properly. 4: The idea of the hot pool and spas were great and they were nice but a bit of a let down. As a guest you have free access to these, great! The warmer pool is roughly shin deep and the concrete so rough I grazed myself while trying to get some warmth under the shallow water. The slightly cooler but still warm pool was again nice no seating in the pool just again rough concrete to lean on which left sore markings on my arms and back. We never tried the warm lap pool so no comment on that. The images online are definitely the private spa pools which are $10 per person for 30mins bit expensive if you ask me.

Overall the stay was horrible I’d definitely look elsewhere before choosing this place. I think all other reviews are from guest who have stayed in their own camper which in that case would be nice but again the internet situation would be a let down. I can only Go as low as 1 start if I could it would be negative...

We were traveling to matamata and looking to stay while doing the hobbit tour - and what a pleasant surprise it was to find opal springs holiday park all of 10 mins out of matamata township.

Arrival and greeted with lovely service and happy to hear free access to the pool facilities was included in the accommodation cost.

I booked the private pool Ramaroa over the phone and paid on arrival. The pool was an absolute delight, opened air, 40 degrees, surrounded by bamboo - relaxing! Kids welcome for the booking, just keep their heads above water.

The large pool was clean, fresh and accompanied to hot pools that were delightful, kids welcome once again.open til 9pm you can sit in a 39 degree hot pool under the stars viewing the moon while your kids splash around in the larger pools- total bliss!

The room was a studio kitchen that had everything you need. Two hobs, microwave, Kettle etc :) enough to cook a feast for the family. Utensils and cooking equipment provided.

Bed was average ( im precious! ) bunks kidsx2 kids -comfy!

Bathrooms are always rough at camps and I chose to accept the public condition of them. Clean nonetheless and easily accessible.

Amazing experience and everything you'd expect from a camp site but with the additional facilities of the spa and pool it sure makes it a beautiful stop for a family get away.

Highly recommend and enjoy your stay!...

Absolute recommend the private open air spa! So peaceful and relaxing. Website is letting them down and the lady on the phone was a bit rude, while trying to make the booking. But the pool made up for the customer service.

We stayed a few nights camping in our Opus lite camper trailer at a powered site. Whilst paragliding in the nearby Kaimai Ranges. At $20/ head per night it was great value and the site was flat grassy and had a leafy shade tree and tap nearby. The large pool is a great cool off spot and even though it was school holidays and the weekend we managed to enjoy the pool and not feel too crowded. With it being about 28° during the day the hot pools didn’t interest me and the big pool was lovely and refreshing, but in the evening when the temperature lowered the natural hot spring pools of 37° and 39° were more inviting. The staff were always super friendly and helpful even with the park being very busy. So much so that we came back for another couple of nights a few days later. And we were treated like long lost friends, very endearing. Matamata is a bit of a drive away, but close enough to get essentials and have a meal or cafe visit. But we just enjoyed hanging out and meeting the neighbouring campers after a busy day out and about. If you like curry you will LOVE the Indian Tadka, 2 Tainui Rd in Matamata, we were very impressed!
