Wairere waterfalls is the tallest in North Island in New Zealand. It takes 2 hours to drive from Auckland to the waterfall carpark. Long Drop (toilet) is available near the car park. Plenty of space for carpark and there is a security camera installed on site. The fall is about 15 mins drive from Matamata where you can also visit Hobit. The hike is challenging as opposed to some other reviewers who say it is easy. Take about an hour just to hike to the lookout. Apparently the hike is even harder from lookout to the top of the waterfall where you can swim. Read moreQuite a challenging walk , wear good sturdy footwear , lots of wet boulders and paths to cross so good grip is essential, After a good rain is best so there is plenty of water surging over the edge . 45mins to lower lookout , enjoy the walk and take your time , do not rush , lots of steps and stairs right when you think your near ,so prepare for a hard push before a well earned rest ( I pushed too hard , did it in 30mins and rubber legged it ). Remember you have to come back down some tricky track .
Stop and enjoy the seat of peace for a great view . Not as good a view as from the top of waterfall , but that is next time for me .
Great parking area lots of room for...

Takes about 45 mins to get to the lookout (one way), track is easy to walk, can be muddy in places, lots of huge boulders along the way. Make sure you have shoes with good grip and support. There are toilets at the start of the track as well. The waterfall itself is gorgeous, 153 m tall and truly stunning, it's visible from the road. Lush flora and greenery everywhere you look. Highly...
