30 months ago we began our research on which semi off road caravan we wanted, and this journey led us to Urban Caravans being the brand that ticked all our specific requirements. At that point Fortis Caravans had just opened their doors in Palmerston North, and we got to see the product at the COVI Show in Hamilton in 2021. We met Andrew Mercer the new GM, and Billie and Sherrie from Urban Australia. We were sold!! At that time the wait was 24 months as Urban was recovering from COVID backlog. This suited us, as over the next 18 months we were able to make design changes and build our new “Home” as we are permanent nomads now. During this whole process Fortis Caravans grew in size and added new team members. We were fortunate to grow with them as we waited. 25 months later we got our Tungsten Tuff, in Traffic Light red, built to our specs. We purchased our beautiful Wild Fern —an Urban Caravan—from Fortis Caravans, the NZ dealer, and couldn’t be happier! From the beginning, Andrew has been incredible. With his youthful enthusiasm and “no problem” attitude, he made the whole process smooth and enjoyable, juggling roles as salesperson, fix-it guy, manager, and all-round go-to person.

We ordered our van in November 2022, knowing it would be delivered in October 2024. The wait was well worth it, as it allowed us to incorporate some upgraded features as technology evolved. The end result is our dream apartment on wheels—we absolutely love the black and tan interior and the modern, apartment-style vibe.

We’ve just left the Fortis showroom after a service and a few minor warranty fixes, and once again, Andrew went above and beyond. He even gave up his own weekend time to show us how to use the Victron system properly.

I’m extremely disappointed with their service.

When I picked up my motorhome, the tyre pressure was only 36psi, while the tyre clearly indicates it needs 80psi. This is not just careless—it’s dangerous.

The customer service is incredibly slow, unprofessional, and unresponsive.

They even put the wrong name on the insurance form and didn’t reply to emails or calls. The parts and green sticker, which were clearly mentioned in the contract, were still missing after a month.

Worst of all: they failed to honour the agreement we had. They made promises they never fulfilled, and that’s unacceptable.

Andrew and James in particular showed no responsibility or basic knowledge.

I’m tired of their excuses.
