Pick-A-Pine Tree Farm — Local services in Papakura

We have been tagging a tree at pick a pine for the best part of a decade and it's always been a pleasure until today. We always pick a tree early and collect it a week before Christmas. The tree we chose was fairly short but fat and was confirmed at $60 when it was tagged approximately 3 weeks ago. Upon collection the tree looked to have grown to be a fair $65 tree (due to heavy rain) but because of one rogue branch that stood much higher then any other the staff member insisted we pay $70. I didn't intend to stand there and haggle over a Christmas tree and it was never my intention (so I didn't), but we had not encountered this problem before in the past and had always found that when we dealt with Neville and Dianne personally they were very fair to deal with when sizing/pricing a tree. I tried to explained to the staff member that I had made a special trip to collect the tree and only had the original quoted $60 cash on me, but it fell on deaf ears. I was forced to make the 30 minute round trip home to get more money. Yes, the tree had grown and I should have had more cash on me, but we have never had an issue with a trees value increasing in that short time between tagging and collecting. $70 was stretching its value I thought. I returned with my Eftpos card and reluctantly paid the $70. It's regrettable because I did have an extra $5 in coins stored in the glovebox that would have taken it to $65 which was probably a more accurate and fair valuation and could have saved me from having to drive all the way home again. 3Dec21 0841 Every year I do the short trip down from Redoubt Rd to Pick-A-Pine and get my extended family's Christmas trees. We started with two .. Ten years ago. Now it's six trees. And the family owners are always friendly, smiling broadly, and oh so helpful. As for the trees? Top class. No matter what size. Small? Medium? Large? Super large?
