Our Playground People playground is a true haven for our young adventurers. The process of collaborating with the Playground People team was an absolute delight from start to finish. Avalon Park opened on a wet spring day that couldn’t dampen Lower Hutt’s kids enthusiasm for trying out the latest and greatest that Playground People has on offer, as kids swamped the playground; it became apparent that the equipment and environment hit the mark. The opening of revamped play space brought to close a two year involvement for Playground People but a four year process for the Hutt City Council. A six million dollar development that included almost one million dollars’ worth of play equipment, Avalon Park is an excellent example of a supplier, designer and client working together to achieve a remarkable outcome.

Playground Peoples full array of imported and New Zealand made equipment was sorted though and scrutinised to find unique and suitable features to blend into the extensive landscaping to create an accessible, adventurous, challenging and fun play environment. A substantial custom bespoke feature was created to span across the play space and link the different sections together. The outcome has been described as outstanding and the best play space in New Zealand.

We wanted this new playground to provide a real challenge for our older children, and it absolutely has. The equipment is varied and caters to a wide range of interests, from climbing and balancing to more creative and social play. It has “mopped up” a large group of students who were previously harder to engage during break times, and thanks to its size and versatility, it comfortably accommodates a significant number of Year 4–8 children. The level of challenge is just right—exciting without being unsafe—and it’s been fantastic to see how well it supports active, inclusive play.

Having previously purchased a junior playground from The Playground People, we knew we could trust them to deliver high-quality equipment—and they haven’t disappointed. From our first communication through to the design process and final installation, the team was outstanding: responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely collaborative. They listened to our needs while offering helpful advice that made the final result even better.
