While driving along State Highway 8 between Omarama and Wanaka, you will enter the Lindis Pass, where the highway climbs as it weaves through beautiful landscape.

Eventually, you will find the Lindis Pass Viewpoint. This is a good pullover spot. There is a 200 metre walk to a viewpoint overlooking a harsh, barren yet beautiful Pass. It is worth checking out and taking a few pictures.

Note: Given the high altitude at this viewpoint, we found it rather breezy and much colder than being down in...

In typical spring fashion it was snowing this morning in Omarama so we doubted the ability of our campervan to make it over the pass which is 500m higher. Later in the morning the sun came out and the sky was a gorgeous blue. The webcam showed the road was clear of snow so we headed up the Lindis Pass. What a beautiful world greeted us. The higher peaks were covered making a magnificent contrast with the golden tussock. Fluffy clouds adorned the bright blue sky....

This is the view point nearer to the parking with less than a minute walk. At this observation deck, you will be looking at the traffic from/to the North (e.g. Omarama) direction. Personally I find the landscape view of this direction is more beautiful than the Summit lookout that's about 200 meters south. That said, it's worth visiting both while you're here.

The parking is not big , can only accommodate about 8 cars. No...
