We first booked green and gold room. The description told that the toilet was a short walk from the room. Well, we must say we were surprised that short wasn't as short as we expected. We had already discussed the possibility of having the cottage if it was available even if it was for one night. The owner accepted to make the change. An extra charge of cleaning applied, since it was one night and that charge was ok to us. The cottage was better, nicely divided and well maintained. However, it is very old. So many things were bothering. Faucets were separated. Only hot water in one, only cold in the other, like the older houses. There was a wood-burning stove in the kitchen/living room. For the rooms, there was only mobile heaters. That should have been good to do the job. Too bad, our room had only one electric plug behind the bed. It was impossible for us to have the heater in the room. Our friend was luckier in his room. I would recommend clearer ads and many additional pictures so we understand how far is a short walk since the toilet is outside the building. Also, having extension cords in the cottage would be nice. Owners were kind and helpful. We thank them for arranging something in the...
Read moreI love the stay here! Justine and her daughter, Anna has been so nice and caring. Very generous people, with their time and their actions.
Its a working farm so the family is always buzzing around.. they have alot of dogs too.. i chose to stay in the bunk room (up to 4 pax) which i totally love. Its connected to the shared kitchen and living room. Lol. Good heater, warms the entire room! Can use more powerpoints to though.. but u can charge stuff in the living room too.
The kitchen is very well equipped too. The whole place is very clean.
Location: love that its very close to slope point end. Theres nothing else there but the farms and nature. Very calming, very healing, very peaceful. U can focus on doing ur thing and going for long walks. Love it here. I stayed for 5nights.
The only thing abt the catlins.. theres only 1 supermart at owaka and no one sells lamb/beef because the farm owners has their own stock. So get ur own...
Read moreJustine was an excellent host. Staying here was the best decision I made for my solo trip driving around The Catlins. The common kitchen and bathroom was modern and with impeccable cleanliness! Getting to feed sheep in the paddock and play with their cute dog (Jack Russell Terrier?) who roams around the property were the "cherry on top". Indeed the ideal place to start and end your Catlins adventure, just an hour from Invercargill. If you're not into camping grounds and after dorm/hostel accommodation, this is definitely the one to go for. They have private ensuite rooms too! Maybe I'll be back for that...
