This is a beautiful and special place, BUT there are so many such places (including several equally or even more beautiful volcanies) and the experience dealing with the people work there and the ridiculously EXEPENSIVE, super HIGH COST of everything there is NOT worth it. They will pester you and demand more money from you. Try to get you to lay $22 even if you walked the crazy steep, hot and humid many hours long walk instead of the transport. And then you still have to pay $11 for the basic Crater path (about 30 min walk, but takes longer because of the 3-4 view point stops where you look at the crater ad then over Granada). Honestly, the vibe of the place is ruined by the intense and constant 💰 grab! I would advice enjoying the other things Nicaragua has to offer. It is beautiful but it is not a MUST see. The cloud forests of Omopete on the other hand, are gorgeous and free to explore. Nicaragua's other volcanoes - ones more active and easier to access do not have the awful vibe. Read moreAs usual prices from the internet are different from reality once on the spot.
So in August 2022 prices for foreigners are 5$ for entrance + 2$ for the maintenance of the tracks. That's only if you want to do the easy track, you have two other options where you'll have to pay a compulsory guide.
Then you have yo pay an additional 20$ to go up and down. However on their website it was clearly said that the shuttle was 2$ one way (which feels more like a normal price considering it's a 20 mins ride)
So...you'll have to pay $27 for a hike that lasts one hour. Not worth it considering it's not the best view around.
Locals pay less for the transportation, which is stupid, because it's only transportation and it shouldn't be more expensive for us. I understand for entrance and other fees that locals pay less but here. Any way we just didn't go.
Keep going like this and you'll have nobody on...
Read moreThis vulcano is definitely worth a visit and you can choose to hike 3 different paths, varying in length. However, when going up with a pick-up truck from the entrance to the actual place where the 3 hikes start, be sure to ask when the truck is going down (since we waited for 1h+ in which we could've easily done a longer hike). To note, it is also possible to hike from the entrance to the starting point of the hikes, which is around 1.2 miles...
