Definitely a must see !! I didn't do any volcano boarding while I was there , it was too hot and there was already a group at the top , but non the less it was amazing to take in the scenery . The deep black color of the sand and rock contrasts sharply with the green foliage of the trees and grass . Facing this enormous volcano and black sand dunes feels like a different planet .Check in at the main gate was quick and easy and the staff was welcoming and explained the area in detail . The road to get there isn't too bad , it's when you get to the last few miles/kilometers where it gets pretty rough from washout , go slow as there's good size rocks , dips and holes you'll be...

The youngest active volcano in Central America! I'm glad to have experienced volcano boarding here, it was exhilarating! Went here with a local guide, who is an independent contractor with a group tour that I booked. It's great that we went early in the morning so we had the whole volcano to ourselves and avoided the scorching sun. The hike up to the peak is about 45 mins, rewarding you with cool breeze and amazing view. Descending down the slope with the board takes a few seconds to few minutes. An experience of a lifetime that is worth...

It is worth the drive to head up to and to check out. We had a guide to help us go up to the volcano. It’s a scary experience, because the higher you go, the windier it gets, and the trail gets alittle steep, but one you are on top of the volcano it’s all good. I did not realize it was still active (I’m ignorant...);because some steam was coming out from the volcano, and it felt hot too. Once on top you get a great view all around Nicaragua. And we got to watch the sunset, and sled down...

24 Hours in Leon, Nicaragua (SAVE + SHARE this post): After visiting Granada, Nicaragua (see last post) we headed to Leon. 🌋 Kick the day off with a sunrise hike of Cerro Negro so you can go volcano boarding down this active volcano. The tour cost $30pp and we booked it through @bigfoothostelnicaragua 💃🏾 After taking a nap head to @leoncitos_de_la_salsa to take some salsa and bachata lessons. We did a 1 hour private class for $10pp which we set up last minute by sending a message to them on WhatsApp 🧭 Explore Leon by foot, walking through the street and markets, taking in the architecture. ⛪️ Climb to the top of Cathedral-Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the largest cathedral in Central America for beautiful views of the city. We went for sunset and it was really pretty. Note you do have to remove your shoes once you get to the top before you’re able to walk around the roof. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for kids.
