The 2NB project is a very significant project that will decongest the existing Niger Bridge, boost economic activities, and connect the South-East with the rest of the country. The project and its link roads are expected to be 46.9km long, connecting Asaba (Delta State) and Onitsha (Anambra State)
It's been constructed by the Federal Government of Nigeria between Asaba and Anambra State crossing through the River Niger.
The bridge is being done by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, spanning about 1.6km bridge over the River Niger; 10.3km approach roads from Asaba and Onitsha will also be constructed to connect with the bridge.
The bridge will be of great help and relief to the south east considering the amount of gridlock that goes on in the River Niger bridge on a daily basis. But the completion of this second Niger Bridge will collapse the epileptic gridlock that have bedeviled the South East on that bridge for more than 50 decades.
Many Nigerian government have tried severally to construct the bridge but to no avail, funds have also been budgeted for the bridge but to no avail. Thank God for the government of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who secured the funds for the project with IMF and the government of Muhammad Buhari who went head-on to utilize the funds to construct the bridge.
The project was successfully funded and we'll constructed. It's indeed magnificent views of the River Niger looking...
Read moreThe Onitsha bridge is a carriageway joining Delta and Anambra states of Nigeria. Design wise, I would say the design is below average, although some people claim that's because it is old. The bridge has just one lane which is too small for one that serves as a major route for commuters between the Western and South-Eastern Region of the country. The traffic congestion was slightly heavy when I was there and it was sure to be worse during some other hours of the day, evenings to be specific. Even the Lokoja bridge is wider than this not to talk of Onitsha that is a major commercial destination in the South but I think there is another bridge (can be seen from the bridge) under construction that should accommodate more vehicles and provide a better...
Read moreConstant traffic on this bridge from the Asaba end of the bridge to the point where road safety officials are doing their work.
It is a two lane bridge at this time without separation between incoming and outgoing vehicles.
The view is great.
One of the longest bridges in Nigeria with proper renovation required or a second bridge should be constructed to support it as proposed by the Nigerian government.
It is not optional to use.
In order to drive or cross into the South East by road, I highly recommend it as there is no place else to cross from the South West, South South into...
