When it comes to getting foodstuffs for the home or to travel, think Mike 12. Home of Perishable and non Perishable foodstuff ranging from Tomatoes, cayenne pepper, bell pepper to scotch bonnet, onions etc you can never go wrong in choosing mile 12. Uncommon veggies such as Parsley, Celery. Lettuce 🥬 Cabbage(green or purple),Carrot ,green peas, kidney beans ,you will find them here. Fruits such as Cucumber, Watermelon, beets can also be gotten from here. Irish potatoes 🥔 Sweet potatoes 🍠. Spices such as Ginger, Garlic 🧄, Tumeric, Rosemary, black pepper, etc ? Search no further. Foodstuff that can be made into swallows all available eg: Plantain flour. Cassava flour, Oat flour, etc( both in blended and unblended forms. Soya beans, millet, sorghum... I can't remember to list all. I almost forgot to add that going there in rainy season? Get Ur boots or be ready to have all black muddy-mashy footwear and foot. You want something you are not sure of to get @ mile 12? KINDLY ASK ME... dropping my...

First things first, come with your RAINBOATS, no stories here.

Market has great prices if u are patient and work the market, yea i said "work" and yes of course make sure u have enough stamina to actually Walk thru the market. Price anything and everything. Dont be afraid to move along and price same thing in 5 places before picking one. Its your money.

People will bump into u, run into u, hit u with load and their shoulders, splash dirty water on u, especially if its rainy season (which is when I went), and they will move on without a word - that is called acceptable and normal behaviour at Mile 12, so leave tushness at home when going here.

Overall i totally enjoyed my shopping time especially when i eventually hired an Alabaru to take me around. I wanted to buy everything all over again.

Took my goods to the gate, took permission from the security to drop my load (that cost me N200). Called an Uber and they put my stuffs in for me and...

One of the busiest food and fruit market in Lagos.

If there is any food or fruit item you are searching for in Lagos, find your way to this market.

It houses a lot of Nigeria Northerners (Hausa and Fulanis), the fruit and raw food are very fresh, extremely affordable and sellers are also much friendly.

There is a healthy competition among the sellers resulting into a good market bargaining for buyers.

However, buyers needs to be extremely careful when purchasing, they must be wary of some bad merchants who have the aim of cheating unsuspected buyers by packing rotten food items underneath basket and loading the front part with eye catchy ones.

As much as there is a good competition, buyers must negotiate prices very well because sometimes, sellers inflate prices unnecessarily.

Also be wary of alabaru (load carriers) as they can make away with your goods, keep an eye on them...

Mile 12 market is very popular as the largest food market in South West Nigeria. It accommodates traders of yams, potatoes, garri, plantains, all types of dry fish and crayfish, fresh vegetables and fruits. However it lacks storage facilities for the highly perishables like tomatoes and peppers. These products tend to go to waste very quickly such that one would pity the traders at the sight of such waste. This market has served Lagos and neighbouring states for such a long time that a proper food storage facility should have been in place. If possible too, there should be a food processing plant here that would cater for the large quantities of perishables that go to waste on a daily basis. I love going to Mile 12 market because the prices of items there are always at the lowest.

Mile 12 Market is bustling, busy, with lots of jostling, you just have to prepare yourself. Food items are very cheap compared to other areas but you have to dress the part and know how to price and negotiate. There are different designated areas for tomatoes, pepper onions, potatoes, yam etc. Be careful of the so called helpers who are ever available to assist you as they expect to be heavily paid afterwards. The slight downside to the market is the muddy area, smell, water logged area esp the tomatoes section when it rains/after rains. And the human traffic can be overwhelming. Regardless you'll always have a good bargain, just be ready to move around a bit or a lot.
