Leshok Monastery is wonderful and peaceful place. Lying at 638 metres above sea level it is located on the southeastern side of the mountain Šar Planina. In its complex are the churches of St. Athanasius of Alexandria and the Holy Mother of God Church. The Church of the Holy Virgin, built in 1326, is an excellent example of Byzantine style and architectural tradition. The church has three layers of frescoes. The 1st and bottom layer is from the first time of construction, the second and middle one was added sometime in the 17th century, and the third and top layer was added in 1879. Le monastère de Lesok est un véritable joyau niché dans un cadre naturel exceptionnel, à proximité de la ville de Tetovo, en Macédoine du Nord. Facilement accessible en voiture, avec une route bien entretenue, il mérite largement le détour, même si ce n’est pas sur votre itinéraire principal.

Le site est d’une grande beauté et dégage une atmosphère paisible et spirituelle. Le monastère est entouré de collines verdoyantes et d’un décor fleuri très soigné, ce qui en fait un lieu parfait pour se ressourcer, méditer ou simplement profiter du calme.

D’un point de vue historique, le monastère remonte au 14ᵉ siècle et est dédié aux saints Apôtres Pierre et Paul. Il a connu plusieurs phases de destruction et de restauration au fil des siècles, notamment pendant l’Empire ottoman. Aujourd’hui, il est l’un des lieux spirituels les plus respectés de la région, et il abrite également la tombe du poète macédonien Kiril Pejčinović, figure importante de la littérature et de la culture nationale.
