The Canyon could have been beautiful for sure, but the trail was way too demanding with a forceful stream to cross bare-footed only 1.3 km before the canyon. There were two families carrying babies on their backpacks hoping to make it to the site, but it was simply too dangerous. Thanks for the 19 km walk though (extra thanks to Google map for saying the Lodge was the trailhead

Not here, but if you want to hike there: Search for "Alta Canyon Trail Head" on google maps. Then you'll find an easy and beautiful 6km (one way so 12km total) leading to a view of the canyon. It's southeast of Gargia, next a dirt road where it's still easy to drive on.

This map location is still wrong as of Dec 2022 despite numerous reports, possibly due to the also wrong location on the official website (visit Norway). Search for “Alta Canyon Trail Head” instead, which is down the road from Gargia Lodge.

As others have pointed out, the dot is placed incorrectly on Google maps: instead search for Gargia lodge, a drive of about 15 minutes from Alta, from there you can follow a gravel road for about 5km until you reach a car park, there's an easy (slightly rocky) and beautiful 6km hike from there...
