Næroyfjord is the most beautiful and wildest arm of the Sognefjord is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Fjord cruises in unique setting, with sheer, snow-topped mountains, waterfalls and idyllic farms clinging to the mountainsides. The Nærøyfjord is 17 km long and the narrowest point is only 250 m wide. The passage through Nærøyfjord is one of the most dramatic fjord trips in Europe. There is a passenger boat between Gudvangen-Aurland-Flåm is running all year. The steepness and ruggedness of the mountain terrain is spectacular. However the most impressive part is the serenity of being on the water and observing nature. This fjord can be easily reached from Flam, and if you are going to Gudvangen by ferry or bots, then you will pass through it. This fjord is also popular with campers and recreational users of the fjord including kayakers and stand-up paddle boarders. The staff on board is also excellent. Food and drinks are reasonably priced, so we enjoyed a nice glass of wine as we quietly navigated the fjords. I can't recommend this more highly and can't wait to go back in 2026 when Norway plans to ban all non-electric ships (including these hideous 5,000-passenger behemoths) from...
Read moreWe took the early morning boat from Flam to Gudvangen. This is a hybrid boat that is very quiet which adds to the trip as we the silence on the fjord is one of the beauties of it.
We went in early february so snow was everywhere and it was very cold when we stepped outside for the photos. The trip takes just about two hours and you go through some of the most amazing and pristine scenery.
I imagine in summer you have the added bonus of wildlife around, but on the other hand the boat is probably packed and silence will be absent...
I think I will take the cold and silence over the other option...
