This is not about the viewpoint or the hike up to it, but rather the toll to drive to the parking space and the company hired to manage the parking, toll, and billing. The bill was large, but that in itself is not the problem. The problem is that nowhere while driving to the parking lot or at the parking lot did they specify the toll cost and all the additional costs that we were billed for. Had they been clear about the cost, we would have been fine with the cost. God knows, we paid more for toll than this while vacationing in Norway this summer.
The total cost of driving to this underwhelming viewpoint for us came to 13 EUR. The toll is 5 EUR, and then they charge 6 EUR for something they call "Lagring og oppslag" and 2 EUR to be sent an e-invoice. Being charged for an e-invoice is strange to me, as I thought the purpose of sending e-invoices was to eliminate the cost of sending and paper. Regarding "Lagring og oppslag" I assume this has something to do with hosting and cloud cost. If I am correct, Youpark AS is not only swindlers towards the consumer, but against their owners as well. That is too high of a cost and I cannot help but think that they have added a premium on it as well to earn more.
Anyway, given the cost of 13 EUR, I do not think it is worth it to drive to the viewpoint. Frankly, I want to give them zero stars, but that is...
Read moreAs you walk towards this architectural gem you have along the path up information under your feet where you can stop read breath and take in the history of human interaction with the stunning scenic surroundings. People come to get out of the mountain top wind, enjoy a fire and perhaps spot a Reintroduced Muscox or two. From this point it is as also possible to view Snoohaatta mnt and military helicopter training procedures and I would say that this is a stroke of genuis. This view point gives us a grand perspective on the present human interaction within the context of a landscape that has been sustaining our species and the bold perspective of watching wild Muscox, the flight /bombing drills and the Grand Snoohaatta in the background all in one view... What we really see is humanitys current role in nature and society with all its weakness and greatness. Bravo it's a brilliant installation, comparable with the their other social/ culturally enhancing piece- the Oslo Opera house. Frankly as beauty is in the eye of the beholder - one might say that this is a weird but nice view point looking at a military training sight, and I would say that this is expressing a relevant statement equivalent of any masterpiece in art. THANKS #Snoohaatta or #Snohatta design team - you Rock!...
Read moreVantage point on the mountain Snøhetta. Take the exit at Hjerkinn to visit. Small drive still, about 15 mins. Then you can park your car at a big parking lot. Parking is free of cost. There is also a restroom, and some signs with info about the region, at the parking lot. From the parking lot you have to walk about 30 minutes to the Tverrfjellhytta (cabin) above the edge. Reasonable steep walk. On top there is the cabin Tverrfjellhytta which you can also enter. Inside you can stay warm and take time to wait. Tverrfjellhytta is a spotters spot where you have a great overview on the plain/tundra. You can wait to spot reindeer. Since it's a great vista, it is advised to bring binoculars. For photos is a telephoto lens is essential if you want to pick the animals up close, I think. We wait about 45 minutes but seen no animals. Since we had to travel further didn't had more time to wait and walked...
