Hivjufossen is amazing natural scenery! The waterfall, which is divided into two cascades, has a height of 250 meters. This is the perfect hike to explore the amazing Norwegian nature! The trail starts right in the parking lot at road 50 and rises steeply through the birch forest up to the edge of the waterfall. Along the way, there are several views of the waterfall. From the top, you will be able to admire Hivjuvalley and the streams that descend here from Hallingskarvet. Attention, move here with caution. The surroundings of the waterfall are dangerous, even in the summer there can be light frost created overnight and the stones are slippery. There have been three fatal accidents. The power of the waterfall is huge. Hivjufossen is still completely open and freely accessible, however, the Norwegian authorities are already considering these accidents and are considering some restrictions (fencing the immediate vicinity of the waterfall) and it will be a great pity. You can go back to the car using the same trail. However, if you have time, we recommend exploring this area around. There are several trails that continue towards Hallingskarvet. There is a circular trail marked in red on the stones from the top of the waterfall. Nearby you will find Birkelund Camping, an amazing friendly campsite, an ideal starting point for hiking in the area and visiting Hivjufossen. We highly recommend...
