If u like history about old days and where the copper for the statue of liberty comes from, this is a good place to visit. The place are based on volunteer work, since the community of Karmøy has it as much lower priority when it comes to founding then the Viking camp, but they know their stuff if u start asking them, and they can tell many stories.. it's also the first place in Norway to get telephone systems, and they where bigger then Haugesund in their grand days.. Read moreVisnes er et gammelt gruveområde, med gruvedrift som varte fra 1865 til 1972. Fram mot 1895 var Vigsnes Kobberverk ett av de største kobberverkene i Nord-Europa. 800 personer arbeidet i gruvene på det meste, og 3000 mennesker bodde på Vigsnes, hvor verket drev et helt samfunn med skole, sykehus og ordenspoliti.
I dag omfatter gruveområdet et stort friluftsområde med bl.a. museum, gamlegruva, smeltehytta, administrasjonsbygningen og park. På museet er det utstillinger som presenterer den fantastiske gruvehistorien. Kobberet som ble brukt i Frihetsgudinnen i New York, kommer fra Visnes.
