We are a family of 4 with two teenage boys, who had a fantastic experience both rafting and canyoning with Skjåk Adventure, and in particular our guide Ola Jon.
We were staying in Jotunheimen shortly after Storm Hans and our booked adventure on the Sjoa had to be cancelled due to flooding. After enquiring via email, Skjåk Adventure responded the same day saying they had availability for rafting on their short rafting trip 2 days later.
The team were very friendly on arrival, and were able to provide all the equipment needed including neoprene socks and trainers (just needed a swimming costume).
The real bonus was they overheard us talking about wanting to fit in canyoning, and they offered to take us on their canyoning trip after the rafting. This was a massive bonus for us after the disruption of the storm.
The rapids themselves were amazing - the river we rafted on (the Otta) had 3 sections of rapids with the first swelled up to an intense grade 4 thanks the storm. We had the best rafting experience, with our guide who was friendly and added games to the quieter sections, whilst being very professional about risk, making sure we knew how to get back into the boat (and making us jump and fall in the games a few times). The rafting was capped by a drive to a local bridge where we jumped back into the river - an intro to the canyoning to come!
After a brief rest with free tea, coffee (or squash) at the cabin, we headed out to the canyoning. Ola Jon was again our guide, taking us out to the hill (a river which flowed from an old dam a few hundred meters higher up the mountain that used to be used for hydroelectricity). An “interesting” clamber down the rocks to the start point and then acclimatising in the (much colder) canyon. What followed was 90 minutes of joy with chutes, jumps and clambering down the canyon.
Ola Jon had photos of us through the experience, as well as a video of us on the first rapids. These were shared without charge and without fuss, which was a hugely valuable and welcome offer from the group.
Overall we would thoroughly recommend this company to anyone thinking of...
Read moreExcellent place for rafting and other extreme water activities. We took a package of rafting (15yo+) and canyoning and it was fantastic. First half of the day we were on the river, then after a short rest we went to a river canyon for the other part of the adventure. Our guide Jens made it really fun, exciting but still safe at the same time. We had a comprehensive training, including capsizing of the raft, which was really cool. We went through some really big rapids on the river. Second part of the trip by far exceeded my expectations. It was a trip down the canyon, not by the river but IN the river. It was great. On each trip there was a supporting guide who was helping to keep things safe. We also really appreciated the blankets we were given after rafting to warm up a bit.
It is a full-day activity I recommend to anyone who is keen on...
Read moreI booked super spontaneously and they were ready to go. Everything was very well organised, we got all equipment and instructions we needed as beginners. We booked a family plus rafting tour and we had a group from the age of 10 to (a very fit) 71.
The trip was a blast! Our guide was OJ, very experienced, super cool guy. Knows exactly what he is doing. We surprised ourselves with the courage we developed with him and I felt that OJ knew very well from the beginning, of how to push and support us - and it was 100% safe the entire time.
We left impressed and super happy and spoke about what we experienced for the rest of the day.
The landscape is also perfect and the team is very well organised.
Thanks OJ, and the entire team. It was an excellent experience that we highly...
