Finally it happens today at 12.12.21 (magical number;-) I was there at the border and I also meet the Norwegian older adventurer with his Alaskan Dog who was really cuddling and so I was fully satisfied, after one week having rough weather and road condition to all my Nordic destinations here was one of the greatest experience. it was Sunday so no tourists and I had time enough for chat and exchange some Information and a lot of nice photos.    Read moreFlew from Vancouver, Canada in October 2023 to see one of the potencial hotspots in the New Cold War. Spent 11 days and a lot of kilometers driving the region from Finland north to Vardo and the Barents. This border crossing has the potencial, like the the one to the south in Finland for Russian/FSB fun and games. Couldn't get into Russia (wanted to get to Murmansk) but got very close (5 meters) to border at a number of sites. Conversed with some dual Russians (???) which made me feel like old times (Fulda Gap, 1984). The Globus II site in Vardo is a real puzzle palace along with the Vardo Hotel which has a nice breakfast and a functioning NBC shelter in the basement.
