If you are looking for a destination that is pristine, unique, imaginative - this is it. The location itself is mind-boggling - in the middle of nowhere. A two hour ferry ride or a longer drive from the nearest airport in Bodø, northern Norway. |I am told that the property has won quite a few awards for architectural innovation. I am not surprised as the property combines creativity with simplicity. The cabins literally sit on top of the water and are basic yet comfortable. |The resort sources as much of the food that it can from the island on which it rests. The vegetable garden provides the greens whilst the water around is home to a variety of fish. The chef creates the most delicious yet simple meals bursting with natural flavours.|Recreation includes fishing, kayaking, hiking or just relaxing in the sauna. Permanent residents on the island are the 13 staff members and the 20 odd sheep that help keep the grass neat and tidy.|Most definitely a once in a lifetime experience which I would recommend to anyone who likes nature in its rawest form. The team at Mannshausen is just...

What a fabulous place. As other reviewers note, it's not a casual trip to get here, but once you do, the mixture of playful and thoughtfu modern architecture, rural island life, dramatic mountain peaks, and the sea make amazing alchemy for a unique and truly special experience. Service went above and beyond at every step, dining was high quality and locally-oriented, and a great roster of activities from sauna to hiking to kayaking on offer, even in the off-season. We did the "eagle safari" to some islands about 30 min away and have never seen more sea eagles in one place - at least a dozen. Utterly remarkable experience, Adrian was a great guide. Worth every penny and every minute you spend to get here, you won't regret it. Cabins are phenomenal with floor-to-ceiling windows that are cantilevered over the water to make you think you are at sea (but happily no waves). Just idyllic. Plus: cute and fearless sheep roam...

Beautiful little gem of an island just few minutes off the shores of Nordskot , north of Norway. The tour room was exceptional. Sitting in the well appointed little lounge with an unobstructed sea and mountain view, just as if you were floating on the water. The hiking and beach hoping were the two activities we chose to go for, but many other activities were offered by Angus, the very accommodating and knowledgeable mountain/sea/hotel manager I’ve encountered. The table at Manhaussen was a good one. From breakfast to lunch to dinner . The chef was particularly good in using seasonal produce to present some interesting plates of food. Enjoyed the way he worked the freshly caught fish, and his use of different techniques : infused oils, pressed veggies, fermentation . If you are looking for a place away from everyone and from everything with buckets of beautiful things to see then this is a place for you .

Manshausen is an extraordinary experience. Far removed from the world (it takes time to get there), you're isolated with only the wind and the water and your own ear-to-ear smile! It's not cheap, but worth it. Despite the remoteness, you're spoiled with cozy cabins with amazing views; windswept real nature; sauna and winter dip; and a team who takes care of you like family. High five to Siloe, Charlotte, Ondrej and Angus - they made my stay amazing. Come to Manshausen for: peace, relaxation, inspiration, nature, aurora borealis. I'll definitely come back.
