From the parking lot you get your first glimpse of the glacier. Parking cost 150NOK a day and you pay by credit card when leaving. From the parking lot you follow a marked path. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery, the walk is as much of the event as the glacier itself. The trip is close to 3 km one way, and with normal walking speed you will use 3-4 hours in total. Most of the time you walk on rocks and boulders and there are also some parts where you need to use the fixed ropes to climb or rappel. No climbing experience or equipment is needed, but you would benefit from having good leg and arm strength. Good hiking shoes are required, and don't forget to bring warm clothes as you end up 650 meters higher than you started and cold winds from the glacier pours down the valley. You can start your hike in the near of Odda (8km from the city center) as a cool-down the day after Trolltunga. The views are tremendous. The waterfalls going wild these days and you will cross many of them on the way to the top. We had 500m of ascent and in total 10km back and forth. At the parking you have to pay 185NOK for the day. At the entrance of the hiking trail you will face horses and cows in their habitat.
