Beautiful but really challenging.
First of all: The views from Knutshøe are stunning, no question. The views are changing the whole time and you will always have a nice view during your walk. We made the round tour (straight to the end and then on the small river back), total distance around 17 km, duration 7 hours.
So why not 5 stars? Because this hike is REALLY challenging. I would describe myself as a fit person, but this hike brought me to my personal limit. (in terms of difficulty and condition)
Parking slots are available next to the street (around 15 slots) Beginning of the hike is decent After around 2 km of walking you get to the first really difficult part. Climbing is needed, around 5 meters high with no safety buffer. Almost no signs for the right way After another 2 km hike that you think you are almost at the top. But this moment will come for a lot of times. Another approx. 2 km further you will come to the most difficult part. It is around 8 meters of climbing, there i really had not the best feeling. I am not used to climbing, even i am hiking quite a lot After this ALWAYS go straight if you dont want to go back the same way and if you dont want to climb again. If you do so you will end at the river, from where you can go walk back. Most stunning views are at the end of the mountains, where you already go down again. From there you can see the beautiful fjord the best Until we were down from the hike to the zero level it took us around 4,5 hours. The way back along the river (approx. 9 km) took us another 2,5 hours, it was very wet and not really comfortable to go. And we were really rushing because we were exhausted and wanted to be back.
To put it in a nutshell: Really beautiful, stunning views, but i wouldnt recommend it for unexperienced "normal" hikers. Better plan 8 hours for the whole round-trip as i described it. If you dont want to go the whole way then i would recommend that you make a return after around 3 km of hiking (without the beginning until you get to the first...

Read moreKnutshøe is such a beauty! Loved this hike. Only do it in good weather, both for safety and for the views. Read about the route and prepare before you do it🌱 Avoid doing it before mid july to leave the birds alone🦅the best starting point is from the parking lot, over the mountain(s) and then back through the valley. There are a couple of climbs, so those are easier to do upwards instead of downwards… little note: Heavy dogs might find the climbs difficult. The first climb (often considered the hardest one) in the very beginning can be avoided if you go an alternativ path (see picture). Do a proper research for it in the online mountain foras, and be sure to follow the right track during the whole hike. The second climb is just before the peak. It was fun, but I had butterflies in the stomack, and did not look down 🫣 The top is a nice place to sit down with your «matpakke»(food) or snacks - the views are amazing! When you finally reach the valley, it can be a bit muddy and slippery - use your best hiking shoes. Also bring your mosquito spray! And maybe a swimsuit. Walking the valley is so calming and pittoresque, and the perfect end of this adventorous hike! Enjoy💛 Ps: only walk this when good weather. The path is mostly unmarked. Bring lightweight clothes for all types of weather. Bring food and plenty of water! Plan plenty of time so you can enjoy the...
