This is a very interesting viking museum for families with children. There are great actors that tell funny storys about skandinavien gods and viking 😊

A very strange and frustrating experience.

We drove over 100 km to visit, and it turned out to be a complete mistake.

To begin with, there are absolutely no road signs leading to the museum, which is baffling. We had to hunt for parking and eventually ended up using the church's parking lot. The entire complex is a confusing jumble of a hotel, an indoor museum, and an open-air museum, with no clear layout. It felt like you needed a separate ticket for every single thing?

The biggest disappointment was the open-air museum. All activities and guided tours stop at 3 PM, and they lock the doors to the buildings at that time. It seems you can walk around the grounds after that, presumably without a ticket, but there's nothing to see or do.

We were so annoyed that we left immediately and headed straight for the Swedish border. I would not recommend making a special...

The place itself is amazing, I just wish they had more English translations available (such as the program of the day) and more trained and polite staff at the main building. The staff at the historical houses was amazing, kind and welcoming, while the one at the reception was not informed about the events at the museum/conference room. This led us to have a very very negative experience trying to visit the museum, as there was a local politician hosting a private meeting and we were very rudely refused access to the exhibition from the politician's staff, while the Cultural Centre staff assured we had the right to visit it. I've never been treated so badly anywhere just for wanting to...

At Stiklestad history is not only something they they tell about in modern exhibishions, although they are excellent too. At Stiklestad the curators live the history. The blacksmiths, wood carvers and story tellers all try to recreate authentic viking arts and ways using authentic tools and methods in their research. Their long house and medieval farm has only a bare minimum of modern compromises. Too allow governmental regulations for the buildings to house pilgrims and story telling evenings. ...
