A very strange and frustrating experience.
We drove over 100 km to visit, and it turned out to be a complete mistake.
To begin with, there are absolutely no road signs leading to the museum, which is baffling. We had to hunt for parking and eventually ended up using the church's parking lot. The entire complex is a confusing jumble of a hotel, an indoor museum, and an open-air museum, with no clear layout. It felt like you needed a separate ticket for every single thing?
The biggest disappointment was the open-air museum. All activities and guided tours stop at 3 PM, and they lock the doors to the buildings at that time. It seems you can walk around the grounds after that, presumably without a ticket, but there's nothing to see or do.

The staff at the historical houses was amazing, kind and welcoming, while the one at the reception was not informed about the events at the museum/conference room. This led us to have a very very negative experience trying to visit the museum, as there was a local politician hosting a private meeting and we were very rudely refused access to the exhibition from the politician's staff, while the Cultural Centre staff assured we had the right to visit it. The blacksmiths, wood carvers and story tellers all try to recreate authentic viking arts and ways using authentic tools and methods in their research.
