Here are some of the most popular trails:

The Balcony Walk (W6) Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 4-5 hours round trip This is the most famous trail on Jebel Shams. The Balcony Walk starts from the village of Al Khitaym and follows the rim of the Wadi Ghul canyon, providing stunning views of the "Grand Canyon of Arabia." The trail leads to an abandoned village and offers breathtaking vistas along the way.

The Summit Trail (W4) Difficulty: Difficult Duration: 9-12 hours round trip This trail is the most challenging and rewarding hike, taking you to the highest point of Jebel Shams. Starting from the Al Khitaym plateau, the trail ascends steeply, requiring good fitness and hiking experience. The effort is well worth it for the panoramic views from the summit.

Wadi Ghul (W5) Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 6-7 hours round trip This trail starts at the base of the canyon and ascends to the top, offering a different perspective of the landscape. It involves scrambling and navigating through rocky terrain, making it a thrilling adventure.

Rim Walk (W6a) Difficulty: Easy Duration: 3-4 hours round trip A shorter and less strenuous alternative to the Balcony Walk, the Rim Walk also offers spectacular views of the canyon. It is suitable for families and less experienced hikers.

Al Khitaym to Wadi Nakhr (W9) Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 7-8 hours one way This trail descends from the village of Al Khitaym to the depths of Wadi Nakhr. It requires a good level of fitness due to the steep descent and rugged terrain. The route passes through dramatic landscapes and offers a sense...

This is a must-visit.

I drove up Jebel Shams at night. It is VERY easy to navigate... just punch in the directions for the Jebel Shams Resort and take your trusty SUV up the mountain. (An SUV is required... there's a VERY rocky area that mandates it.) The road up is paved for the first half and is very windy back and forth, so go slow. It will turn into dirt and rock for the second half, and there are no guard rails... so again, take your time and be very cautious. Follow the GPS... it's going to seem weird that it's making you go through what feels like non-roads, but trust it, and you'll see the signs to corroborate the path.

When you make it to the top, you will see a radio tower with a blinking red light. Here's where you can see the "grand canyon" of Oman... and with just the effort of driving up the mountain with your vehicle. (If you hike it, I hear it is an 8-hour trek one-way.)

There is no light pollution and the skies are beautiful at night. In the daytime, the canyons are a feast to behold. There are some wire guard rails randomly placed, but most of it is open... so be careful.

Definitely worth the time. You won't be...

Ultimate Oman Itinerary SAVE IT! 💪🏼🫶 By now, I’m sure you guys know that I am OBSESSED with the beauty of this country and it’s for all the right reasons!! Oman is literally the BUMPER pack for all explorers- Empty beaches, culture, architecture, cuisine, unique landscapes and the wildest nature; it’s an all-in-one combo😍 I admit that before actually researching about this place, I was hesitant to go because I thought it would be boring and boy I was SO wrong!! Oman shattered all my doubts and served up an adventure I’ll never forget. Hands-down one of the best travel experiences I’ve had and I’m so glad I ended 2023 by celebrating New Years here!🙌 Btw, if you are adrenaline junkie and are looking to spend more time in Oman need definitely add the following to your list too: 🏜 Wahiba Sands- Deserts and Middle Eastern countries go hand in hand, right? Camping for a night in the desert is an ABSOLUTE MUST!! 🧗‍♀️ Jebel Shams- If you crave discomfort even on vacations then try out rock-climbing on the highest peak of Oman. 🗿 Bandar Khayrān Annnd, the best news is- we have a long holiday coming up in March (23rd to 31st) and it also happens to be the CHEAPEST month to travel here- with flights starting from just 16,000 INR for a round trip from Mumbai. So now, there’s no excuse left!! Tell me in the comments, have you already booked your tickets??✈️
