At last Pakistan has an airport worthy of being a Capital City airport. Very well designed, with excellent drop off points. Excellent flow of passengers although I do wonder if the queues would be very long at busy times as its a single double door entry. All the checks and security are now excellent, with polite and attentive staff and a great spaced out airport. Toilets clean and well serviced. Signs, plentiful and useful. Needs more commercial shops and food facilities but otherwise I loved it.
airport itβs like making a jump from the 19th to 21st centuries. A very impressive and modern design of steel and glass, though a bit limited (only four in totals) of the shopping and eating options are after the security check. Free WiFi is available and the airport is easy to navigate. Waiting for my luggage to arrive took only about 10 minutes. The 2nd security check was as usual overzealous which is the norm for Pakistani airports, though the security guards were friendly and good natured. But without a doubt the new Islamabad International Airport is far and away the most impressive airport in Pakistan surpassing Lahore and Karachi.

Due to following reasons bargaining power of suppliers is low in PIA: Air line monopoly Low competition ex :Air Bus Pakistanis by the first world had also decreased alarmingly due to security concerns
The threat of substitute products is compare with other traveling facilities because passengers are not used to travel by sea and other substitute
Threat of new entrant is low: Reasons as follows: All international destinations covered by PIA :Monopoly Pakistan bargaining market is very limited

Arrivals and departures here were very different experiences for me.
Compared to the old airport this new Gandhara international airport has a bigger structure that is for sure; but is it better functioning that is not for sure π€.
Arriving in Pakistan through this Airport was a smooth experience that also didn't take too long, immigration queue and the luggage belt operations was efficient and we appreciated how someone was checking/matching luggage tags to ensure people did not leave with someone else's luggage.
In terms of passenger behavior that was so typically undisciplined and unenforced; that a person who was a smoker and didn't dare to smoke in all International lounges, airports and airplanes on his way to our dear airport; lit up a cigarette as soon as he got a chance indoors at the luggage belt in arrivals hall and was smoking without anyone complaining. When I complained he shook his head as if wanting to say ..... off , so I asked Airport security folks for assistance they were able to get him to put the cigarette out. He threw the butt on the floor and gave me a wry smile, as no fine was imposed, no ticket was written and or no charges were filed so he will do it again.
The smoking policy and other passenger policies need to be enforced strictly by imposing instant heavy fines and filing of non criminal civil charges against such offenders on the spot by the security apparatus involved. This enforcement is important and should be a priority for our airport management.
International departure (as in leaving Pakistan) from here was another story altogether, so many long queues that all economy class passengers were also in the first and business class queue which was so long that actual first and business class passengers were cutting the queue in to get the right priority that should not be the case; and more queues should become functional at the very first entry point. There were queues after queues of people I think 4 queues in total that everyone had to go through while trying to leave Pakistan the most painful process. Leaving a country shouldn't be made so process wise difficult and cumbersome. We need to make this process smoother and more automated so we increase the number of open lanes in anticipated rush hour as well as have people move through them quicker through automation. Lets utilize all those chips in our passports and phones.
There were not enough bathrooms in the departures hall I think 4 in total 2 per floor that is a very disturbing picture we need to have that capacity increase atleast 4 times. There should be 10 to 12 bathrooms atleast per passenger separation area. We need to expect more and our services and infrastructure need to deliver more.
The amount of passengers this new airport is able to handle seems to have not increased; because either of poor staff and resource utilisation or failure of the overall process to scale properly due of operational inefficiencies; as compared to the last airport after spending years of time and billions of dollars and imesureable national pride.
Islamabad International Airport needs more bathrooms and an efficient policy/procedure in scaling operations during busy times so customers encounter short, pleasent queues and happy fellow travelers.
