Darkot Pass — Local services in Mastuj Tehsil

Darkut is a high altitude pass (4,575 meter as I recorded) that connects Chikaar (Broghil, Chitral) to Darkut (Yasin, Ghizar). Distance from Chikaar to Ghasimo is 30 kilometers. Can be done in 1 or two days easily. Path from Chikaar side is easy to follow and has gradual increase but there is only one spot where you can find water. On Yasin’s side, there is steep hike with plenty of water including some tricky water crossing. Crevasses are not that big. Majority of glacier lies on Chikaar Side. Where you hike for couple of hours on glacier depending on your speed. On Yasin’s side, glacier is only a few minutes hike long followed by water crossings. Finding the path after glacier is complicated as there is no visible path or marking to guide you on Yasin’s side. A drive of 12-14 hour takes one from Islamabad/Rawalpindi to Chitral city and another drive of 4-5 hours takes you to Mastuj. Mastuj is base for Boroghil treks. The road ahead is jeep drive of 10-11 hours till Ishkarwaz. Then a climb of 1 hour takes you to last settlement before trek starts called Chikar.
