AVOID this location and other national parks in Pakistan 🇵🇰
We crossed the border to China in a shared van with Pakistani men a few months ago. Despite having paid a fee the day before, I encountered issues at the checkpost. Refusing to pay an additional 6000 PKR per person (while locals pay only 300 PKR), I was able to reason with a younger officer until an older one intervened. You basically pay 20x more just because you're a foreigner.
The older officer displayed aggressive behavior, insisting I walk back to Sost and mocking both me and other foreigners. I guess he didn't take into account I can speak Urdu and understand what he was saying to the other officers.
It seemed the money collected goes into their pockets rather than the park's maintenance. Witnessing littering by some Pakistanis inside the park added to the frustration. The fee, given the circumstances of rain and snow at the pass, appeared more like extortion than a legitimate charge.
Park officers' lack of hospitality and apparent focus on personal gain rather than genuine service further soured the experience. Paying 6000 PKR per person just to cross the border is unreasonable, and based on this encounter alone, I have no intention of...
Read moreWorst ripoff in my entire travel history visiting almost 80 countries. 40$ for a foreigner for basically nothing. You don't see anything of the park as you just cross it by Minivan to go to China. Those bad people keep raising and basically doubling the fee every year now. After having a great time in this country I feel so sad about this ending, especially as I can't recommend the country to anyone anymore.
This stupid and shameful government puts foreigners in charge to compensate their bad politics and mistakes with those ridiculous fees which are basically pocket money for them. The fee isn't even mentioned online on the official website and not a single person from the bus agency could tell us about this price. Also the officer is unrespectful and telling us about how much he needs to pay to go to our country - we are talking about the national park and not the visa costs that come in addition. To anyone thinking about continuing their travels through this area: think twice if you want to encourage...

The park is also a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, which aims to enhance trade and cooperation between the two countries.
The entry point is situated along the Karakoram Highway, which is the highest paved international road in the world. The highway connects Pakistan and China through the Khunjerab Pass, which is also the highest border crossing in the world at 4,693 meters above sea level. The entry point is about 35 km from Sost, which is the last town on the Pakistani side of the border. The entry point has a check-post where visitors have to register their vehicles and buy tickets for the park. The entry fee for foreigners is 800 PKR (about 5 USD)...
