A long time ago, shortly after the Karakoram Highway was built, I travelled through the Hunza Valley. I always hoped to come back some day and explore this area more. Fortunately, work took me recently to northern Pakistan and I was able to visit the upper Hunza valley. I trekked to the Passu glacier, Patundas Meadow and the Passu Peak base camp. This was a wonderful trek. The terrain that we crossed was varied, mostly in the arid zone, but sometimes also in the cedars, then finally in the alpine zone. We hiked along glacier moraines, crossed the Passu glacier and hiked the ridge above Patundas Meadows. Everywhere the views were breathtaking. The locals call it Patundas table, because the meadow is flat and provides a true 360 degree panorama. Some preparation is required to visit the area, organising the portars and food. My thanks go to Black Glacier Tours for excellently preparing and carrying out my tour and for making this trip so...
Read more(Visited Date: 11-Aug-2023.) Passu Galacier is situated in a small village within Gulmit in Upper Hunza Valley, Gojal District of the Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan. Basically it’s accessible from Borith Lake (whereas Borith lake is accessible from main road via 4*4 till 11-Aug-2023 as its road is under construction furthermore borith lake separate review is also available in my google review) and it take approx. 1.5 to 2 hour hike from main borith lake to reach Passu/White Glacier. It is hidden gem or I will say unexplored as its situated in this valley. It is highly recommended for those nature lovers for short stay due to beautiful surrounding and landscape. It’s highly recommended and much Visited place in this valley due to combination of wild wind and snowy covered mountain that is enriches its beauty. There are few hotels are also available for night stay at borith lake, one can say basecamp of...
Read moreLocated in Gojal region of Hunza, Passu is one of those few glaciers along Karakoram Highway (KKH) that are very clearly visible write from the road. There are four glaciers in Gulmit region that have a snout ending right on the KKH (from south to north, these are Gulmit Glacier, Ghulkin Glacier, Passu Glacier and Batura Glacier). Passu is the most clearly visible of the four. Right in front of the snout, KKH takes a turn and provides a brilliant view of the ascending glacier. On can take very good photos right from the road and if one climbs for 15-20 minutes on the nearby hills, excellent views of the glacier are available. On a clear day, one can also get a very good view of 24970 ft high Shispare Sar and 24534 ft Passu Peak. It's an excellent stop over while going to Khunjerab. Glacier Breeze Restaurant is located just below the snow of the Passu Glacier and provides good coffee, tea and...
