Everything at Eco Horqueta was FANTASTIC. It's a niche place and won't be for everyone, but it is exactly as it describes itself, so if it appeals to you then I guarantee you will love it. The room was lovely and clean with exceptional views (there's no electricity down there, this is part of the point of it) and was a great place to relax and get away from it all. The grounds have some nice short walks to do. The communal area was comfy, we enjoyed hanging out with the cats and dogs while we charged our phones and made use of the lights to read for the couple of hours a day the generator is on. The highlight though is the meals, Lorraine is a highly trained chef who delivered food of exceptional quality at every meal. I recommend eating there every evening because you'll pay more in town (which is an effort to get to) and I guarantee whatever you eat there won't be as good as what Lorraine is preparing on site. She can cater for every imaginable diet (we're vegan) as long as you give her a heads up. We were the only guests eating there on our first evening and Lorraine offered to let us eat with her, her mum and their friend (the three of them run the place), we had a lovely evening discussing many things and hearing all about how the place was set up etc. On the other evenings we ate with other guests and/or the owners again and it was always fascinating conversation and a lovely environment to be in. A truly unique property and experience. Also Lorraine was incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough in terms of dropping us in town in time for tours etc, we felt bad asking her to make the journey and got the bus back in the evenings to reduce the demand on her, but she assured us she didn't mind and it made a huge difference because the property is quite remote. Just be nice and don't take the mick please because she's a lovely person! And we did yoga with Maria Jesus, with a view of the volcano, what a great experience. So sad to leave! Would 100% stay again.||Just be aware it's a fair way out of Boquete and, while Lorraine is very kind and will probably offer to drop you in town, it's not really fair to expect her to keep ferrying you back and forth so be prepared to have to take local buses etc. and don't stay here if you want to be busy busy in town. The point is to be taking time out, so chill out up there! I may possibly have never been as relaxed in my entire life as I was staying here. Being so far up in the hills surrounded by nature and the views of the volcano, with excellent food at every meal and great company, private yoga as and when you want, and cats and dogs to play with... It's just the best place ever, simple as that. Cannot recommend highly enough (assuming you want...
Read moreWe stayed at Eco Horqueta in May 2024 for 4 nights. We also had a few dinners and took the ancestral coffee tour.
As soon as we arrived, the dog committee greeted us. Only the first of the welcoming family at Eco Horqueta. Breakfast was included every morning where we were treated to incredible Boquete coffee, beautiful mountains, and delicious food. Two evenings, we had the pleasure of 3 course dinners prepared by Lorraine and Pol and were charmed by the attention to detail, local produce and creativity of this pair. During the ancestral coffee tour, we got to explore the farm and experience a part of the traditional coffee making. Marilin and the dogs were great tour guides, we felt priviliged to share in her traditions and knowledge. Eco Horqueta encourages guests to disconnect and enjoy nature. However, Wifi was available from the main house and mostly from the cabins, for those worrying about their Duolingo streak. The cabins were private, with their own balcony. There was also a private bathroom with running hot water. While we had modern world amenities for basic comfort, Eco Horqueta puts a lot of effort in staying eco-conscious and sustainable. Highly recommended for people looking to be close enough to Boquete while being up in the mountains. While remote, we were able to get rides and taxis into town when we booked tours and dined out. We didn't have a rental car, it might have made the travels easier, but we still managed and our host was very accomodating.
For those seeking beautiful views, local charm, proximity to nature and animals, this place is for you. We were sad to leave as we created beautiful memories there. By the end of our stay we felt like we were part of the family. Thank you, Lorraine, Marilin, Pol, and...
Read moreWe came here for an experience not listed on their website — for a surprise meal that included appetizer, entree, dessert, and juice for $20. We shared with them our dietary restrictions and the rest was up to them! Each dish had a beautiful story that Lorraine explained to us. I understand you can also stay in their ecolodges here! I cannot recommend reaching out for a dinner experience more. Lorain and her husband are so kind to open their home and their passion for food and culture shows so clearly in the meal presented to us. I wish them the absolute best and wish YOU the best time with them! Keep in mind a little dirt road at the end and a bit more narrow streets than typical in Boquete — they offer to pickup and drop off as well. We didn’t realize this and so they kindly drove us halfway back at the end of our meal! So...
