Cerro Chame — Local services in Panamá Oeste

Nice hike up to the top of Cerro Chame where the cross is. We parked at the Chame Reforestation gate and walked up the farming road from there (3.4km one way). Very rough road driving in. We did it in a Corolla but it was touch and go at times, likely not possible in rainy season or after a big rain. Need to pass through gate onto private property where the trail actually starts (1.75km from start), not sure about what is and isn’t allowed in Panama but we read another review that recommended going through the gate. Surprisingly covered in the trees most of the way. Incredible views of the pacific and interior from the top. Few bugs through the forested parts, nothing crazy though....

Is about 2.19 miles from the start of the trail, next to the double gate, you can leave your vehicle park there. It's a moderate uphill trail, at 1 mile remember you need to detour from the main trail, the one that fits a vehicle and turn left towards the north top. Como bien dice el nombre, Cerro Chame se encuentra en el distrito de Chame, concretamente en el sur de la Bahía de Chame.

Se trata de un cerro con una elevación de 523 metros sobre el nivel del mar con unas vistas privilegiadas de toda la costa y los humedales Sajalices.

Para iniciar el camino tienes dos opciones: empezar desde Bejuco o estacionarte un poco más cerca del inicio del sendero. Nosotros hemos realizado ambas opciones, y en el final del post compartimos el link a las ruta GPS.

El sendero para llegar a la cima no es complicado, pero si no estás acostumbrado al senderismo, quizás no optaría para iniciar con esta opción.

La primera parte del camino se hace a través de árboles, pero más o menos desde la mitad hasta arriba ya no hay sombra, por lo que ten en cuenta a qué hora vas a subir y sobre todo, llevar suficiente agua para el camino.

Una vez en la cima, la vista 360º, es ¡espectacular!

Si te animas, hay lugar de sobra para montar una carpa y pasar la noche en la cima para poder disfrutar de un amanecer con vistas a toda la costa.
