Pastoruri Glacier — Local services in Cátac

The park and the glacier are beautiful and worth the visit! that being said we booked a tour at tour operator in Huaraz. We had to register our names on a registration form in the bus. Me (being a foreigner) my girlfriend (Peruvian) are charged with different pricing Me 30 soles, girlfriend 12 soles. The guys (guide and bus driver) in the bus changed my nationality to Peruvian, so they could pocket 18 soles! Instead of giving the fee to the park. I don't mind paying more if this money goes to preserving the park and it's beauty for the future. But then taking this money (the guide and bus driver) in there own pocket is very very bad in my opinion. Because we saw the list laying around (to bad I didn't take picture as proof), we confronted the guide after our trip. He got nervous and denied the alligations. My girlfriend being Peruvian got a call 30 minutes later from the guide that he will wire the 18 soles to her bank account, and yes he did this after 1 hour after the confrontation.

As a foreigner please check at the park entrance that you are indeed seen as a foreigner and that the money doesn't go into the pocket of the guide.

I've not included the name of the tour agency and the name of the guide. This will probably cost him his job and that is not what we wanted.

The Pastoruri Glacier lies in the southern part of the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of north central Peru, occupying one flank of a 17,200-ft- (5,240-m-) high Andean peak called Nevado Pastoruri. Para visitar este lugar debes estar aclimatado, no pases directamente de llegar de Lima a Huaraz y tomar la movilidad hacia el Glaciar que está a 5 mil metros de altura, el impacto en tu cuerpo es fuerte. El viaje se realiza de Huaraz en una microbús cómoda y bien cuidada, al salir puedes comprar confites u hojas de coca así como otros accesorios para la lluvia y el frío 🥶, así colaboras con los vendedores locales. Luego de un buen recorrido pararan en un restaurante para que dejes pedido tu almuerzo, el mismo estará listo para el camino de regreso, menú variado y el loma saltado es muy bueno 🍜. El microbús seguirá un largo trayecto por calles de lastre, muchas curvas y movimiento... así que esa es una parte que no todos te comentan en sus vídeos 🤢, pero puedes entretenerte tomando fotos. Pararan a ver los sumideros de agua o aguas gasificadas de Puma Pampa y unas plantas muy altas con forma de lanza y hojas que se tornan doradas llamadas Puyas Raymondi. Allí ya la altura te afectará. Llegamos al fin a la entrada del Glaciar, facilidades con bañó y venta de alimentos si están abiertos. Empezamos una caminata de unos 2 km por un sendero pavimentado y con una pendiente no muy pronunciada, pero la altura te puede afectar y hacer que ese recorrido sea todo un reto. Te dan 2 horas para llegar al Glaciar y tomar tus fotos de recuerdo, 30 minutos más para descender y emprender el viaje de regreso al restaurante para disfrutar de tu almuerzo. El Glaciar ya está muy afectado por el calentamiento global y tendrá que ver lo que queda del Glaciar a cierta distancia para evitar más daño a ese medio ambiente. 🥵 Tour recomendable si estas aclimatado a la altura y tienes paciencia con los largos recorridos en microbús. A mi llegando a la cima del sendero me nevó y empezó a hacer tormenta con truenos así que duró poco la visita. Prepárate bien para esta aventura y así la disfrutaras. Aclimatarse antes 🥴 y tener suerte con el clima...
