I give this star only for the good food and nice people. The staff of Milia Amazon lodge were nice and friendly people and the food was really good in this place. The lodge itself is a pretty one too and in a very good location. But the excursions and organizations were so poor . Our guide was a very nice guy, but too lazy to operate the tours as promised. We did not do any night tracking, or let's say we didn't do any tracking at all in Amazon woods. We only walked about 5 minutes behind the lodge to swim in a very small natural pool not the Amazon river itself. And the worst part about it, this was a substitution of our night track and we didn't know! The swimming itself was promised to be with the mud and in the Amazon river as well! We were supposed to watch the sunrise on our second day and he told us he would call us at 5 am , so I didn't set an alarm. But then he didn't call us with the excuse of "I've thought you're tired and need to sleep", you don't think, when you tell people you call them you do. We were only once there. The day after it was raining so we missed it totally. They cancelled our fishing tour too. Bad weather ! check the forecast and manage to exchange the program if you've already missed two activities by poor managing and you see us complaining. Most of the time we were at the lodge relaxing or going to sleep early because we promised to have something at 5 am, never happened! Long story short if your plan is to relax and have no adventures in Amazon, then this is a good spot. If you look for promised and adventurous activities Nah , this is not the right place to go. You will pay way too much for what you get. I'm so sad about...
Read moreAmazing family run lodge with great facilities and people. Special mention to Jorge, the English speaking guide who really made this an amazing experience. He has so much first hand insight into the jungle and some really interesting life perspectives. We particularly enjoyed seeing fireflies at night with him and dolphins on the Amazon River. The best tour guide we have ever had, and he deserves the best of luck with saving the jungle.
Most of the excursion consisted of personal, authentic experiences in the wild which were amazing, particularly with Jorge's knowledge of Amazonian culture, medicinal plants and wildlife. One criticism we had was about the 'rescue centres'. Some of them were like animal prisons with mistreated intelligent animals, particularly on the last day next to the native community (the other couple wanted to go to this rescue centre). It was very sad to see monkeys and toucans in small cages. The monkey island however was so much better, and shows how they should be treated.
I understand this is the way of life and not the fault of Milia, therefore I will keep the review 5 stars. However, I wish that Milia could consider the ethics of supporting these kind of businesses, who appear to rescue animals but then put them in a prison. This would reflect the values of the lodge who are very kind and caring people. Otherwise, the lodge and excursions were absolutely wonderful, and we learnt so much about life in the jungle and...
