The most epic place I have ever been! The view to every direction during the hike was so beautiful. Ausangate is the tallest mountain in the Cusco region. It means “the god who rules”. We started at 14000 ft and hiked up to 15,500 ft. There are a few loops to take and we did a medium length loop trail, which included 6km up and 6km down and all 7 beautiful lakes surrounded by mountains. Weather changed so fast. It was sunny in the morning and then cold & windy in the afternoon then hails and soon after rain shower.
We joined a group tour. We thought we would be the slowest but we did managed to not to be the last one to finish. Even after a week of acclamation in Cusco, we were out of breath many times. When we came down, we both had headaches but it was worth it! Truly amazing...
Read moreGreat place for a 2 day hike, the views are amazing and the hike itself is not very demanding. I dont recommend doing this hike if you are not well acclimatized, otherwise you will the altitude.
I took a bus from Cusco to Tinki and paid a driver to bring to Pacchanta, where the trailhead starts. After finishing the hike, I spent one night in the village and hiked to Tinki on the next day, where I took a bus to return to Cusco.
Dont forget to spend time at the hot springs after the hike, it is very cheap and perfect to relax your muscles...

All the lakes are fantastic. With sun in the sky the colours are incredible ranging from bright blues to pale reds. The entire time you'll have Nevado Ausangate as the backdrop so if you like mountains and lakes, this is one of the best day hikes you can do.
The altitude is very noticeable at nearly 5000m so make sure you've had time to acclimate before you take...
