This was one of the best days experiencing nature that I've ever had - Roger and his company are a huge reason why. Don't blink at the price or skimp on going with a big group tour - the planning, service, and execution of this company is first class. We left at 3AM, picked up a snack on the drive/nap over and were the first vehicle on site for the day. We watched the sun turn the valley a beautiful colour over breakfast in the spacious van then made tracks for rainbow mountain. We hit the peak just as the sun completely lit up the mountain and didn't have to compete with crowds for beautiful photos. Roger doesn't put any pressure on timing allowing you to enjoy the day as you wish. Then we headed through the Red Valley, which turned out to be the highlight of the day. We were walking by ourselves for the entire journey - taking in the beautiful changing landscape and even spotting Vicunhas! Most group tours will just take you to the top as a detour instead of walking down that side - another big reason to go with Rainbow Mountain Expeditions. Roger is a local guy and supporting a small business from the region is the ideal way to be spending tourist dollars. He cares about your experience, about the land you are on, and the communities that live on it. I cannot recommend this highly enough. He does any tour you'd like from Cusco as well - so reach out for whatever you need.

This review is about two months late but hands down, the best expedition experience of our entire Peru trip, all due to Roger's wonderful planning and guiding. We booked two excursions, one day to Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain and originally the second day to Humantay Lake. Unfortunately, due to a fire outbreak to Humantay, all access were blocked during this window in our schedule (we had other things booked so we couldn't move our days around). Roger kindly offered to switch us to the Seven Lakes excursion instead without charging us extra and it was overall a fantastic trip. Roger was so knowledgeable and he gave us all the details we needed to prepare for our two days with them -- pickup/dropoff times, what to wear/bring/expect, what's included/excluded, everything to make us feel comfortable and have a great experience! This is a family-run business and I highly recommend you book your rainbow mountain and other excursions with them. They took such great care of us, encouraging us to take more pictures, and packing an AMAZING lunch (homemade by Roger's wife) and we could not be happier. Please support this wonderful family-owned and operated business!

If you want it go to the only rainbow mountain where you will be the only people there, except maybe a local dog who tagged along with us all day after getting g a piece of bread at breakfast, choose Rainbow Mountain Expeditions. We were the only tourists there. I’m serous! The only other people we saw and spoke to were local Sheppards. On our way there, we picked up fresh bread along the road, caught trout at a local trout farm and chicken from a local butcher. Breakfast was great. Lunch, prepared by Chef Edwin, was absolutely amazing. Chef Edwin certainly deserves the title “Chef,” and will no doubt own his one restaurant one day. Our guide, Roger, was knowledgeable and friendly. Our pace was perfect for my son and I. Hiking to 5,000 meters is no joke, but it’s not too steep anywhere. Roger generously shared his coca leaves, and I chewed them often. Bring at least 2-3 liters of water. It’s heavy at first but obviously gets lighter as you drink. I cannot recommend Rainbow Mountain Expeditions and our hike highly enough.

This is by far the best company to explore the Rainbow Mountains with and its not even close! Here's why I highly highly recommend you book with this company:

  1. RM Expeditions offers afternoon tours which means no 4am pick up! But also the 75+ vans coming down with us as the only one going up meant the entire rainbow mountain to ourselves!

  2. RM offers the best ATV experience as you start where other companies end the ATV portion which means a 1-2 hour hike or paying for a ride on a motorcycle or horse. RM is a 30 mins max ride straight up to the top (which is crucial with the altitude and cold) and a 5 mins hike to the absolute best photo spots!

  3. Our guide Roger was knowledgeable and personable and oh yeah took a ton of pictures and videos for us at no additional costs and sent immediately on the car ride back! Tell me why his photos were far superior then the hundred we took!!!

I honestly cannot recommend RM Expeditions enough as they are extremely well organized, geared towards safety first, was very attuned to asking how we were acclimating to the 16,000+ feet altitude, and just the best...
