Neste lugar está sepultado Édson Vandeira, montanhista brasileiro que junto com dois amigos peruanos morreram ao final da escalada, no topo do monte a mais de 6 mil metros de altitude, sendo encontrados 20 dias após o desaparecimento, no dia 22/06/2025. Os três enfrentaram grandes dificuldades enquanto estavam no cume, não conseguiram descer, morrendo ali mesmo. Edson era montanhista experiente com mais de 20 anos.
