So many tourists are using expensive bus hops to cross the border but it's easily done independently. Here's how it worked for me today as a solo traveller with a UK passport..I caught a collectivo from Copacabana square to Kasani at around 9am. This 15 minute ride, along the lake, cost 4bol. Then I walked past the road barrier to the migration office on the right. On a Monday morning, there was no queue and it took 30 seconds to be stamped out of Bolivia. No questions asked. I changed my last Bol and bought water next door. Then I walked under the arch into Peru, after 15 seconds walk down hill, I got my passport stamped into Peru in the building on the left. Both officials friendly, no waiting on Monday morning, just a bit of rummaging through passport to find relevant stamps, no forms needed to be filled in, or photocopies of anything required. Then I took a cab that already had another 3 passengers in it to the bus station in Yunguno. This cost 2 Sol. Fortunately, a mini bus to Puno was almost full so I waited just 5 minutes before setting off. This enjoyable journey took 3 hours ( roadworks caused a delay) and cost 13 Sol ( official price list displayed on inside of bus)....
