It was a great experience when we climbed the Bud Bongao last April 29,2023. We were 4 seniors communing with nature at its best while trying to catch our breaths!! There were thoughtful sheds for us to rest! Young and old locals coming down encouraged us to continue because we looked like as if we were about to give up. No way !! We were sheltered by the afternoon sun because of the huge trees! And a few macaques monkeys eyed our trek with sharp interest! Finally we saw the shrine of Sheikh Makhdom then we know we were near the apex! It was such an exhilarating moment to see the calm sea below us and trying to dry our sweaty bodies when we’re joined by 4 young people from Cotabato after the regulatory photo ops with them , we started going down Being a bit disappointed because the sunset was covered by clouds. The trail has improved since the last time my friend went on hiking. It has now concrete pavement and stairs. Anyone can go up on their flip flops but its recommended to wear proper shoes for safety purposes.
Bud Bongao is also the home of most monkeys and birds in the province. Monkeys roam around the area and some wait for visitor to feed them with banana. They are also friendly so please don’t frighten them...and please respect their place. We are just visitors in their area.

The locals were friendly including the monkeys who lived within the santuary. Make sure to bring water and some bananas as treat to them (monkeys).
