Beauty of Mt. Opao, Sicogon Island Nestled on the serene Sicogon Island, Mt. Opao stands as a beacon of natural splendor and tranquility, offering a sanctuary for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. My trek to the summit of Mt. Opao was nothing short of awe-inspiring, as I immersed myself in the lush foliage, vibrant flora, and symphony of wildlife that enveloped the trail. The ascent towards the peak unveiled panoramic vistas of the island's pristine coastline, shimmering azure waters, and emerald hills rolling into the horizon. Each step echoed a harmonious blend of serenity and invigoration, as the gentle rustling of leaves and chirping of birds accompanied my journey upwards. Reaching the summit, I was greeted by a breathtaking 360-degree view that left me speechless. The sight of neighboring islands outlined by the golden hues of the setting sun painted a picture-perfect scene that seemed straight out of a postcard. As I stood there, embraced by the cool mountain breeze, a profound sense of peace and gratitude washed over me, reminding me of the sheer magnificence of nature and the wonders it holds. Moreover, Mt. Opao's tranquil ambiance and untouched beauty offered a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing me to reconnect with the earth and my inner self. The experience of exploring its trails, basking in the sunlight filtering through the canopy, and listening to the rustling leaves whispered a gentle reminder of the importance of harmony between humanity and the natural world. In conclusion, my expedition to Mt. Opao on Sicogon Island was a soul-stirring escapade that rejuvenated my spirit and rekindled my appreciation for the raw, unspoiled beauty of our planet. This hidden gem embodies the essence of adventure, discovery, and rejuvenation, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking solace in nature's embrace.

The island is about 1.5 hour boat ride from Estancia port or you can take Airswift and land on the island. We stayed at the Huni Resort. The side of the island where we stayed was beautiful and very clean. Not so many resorts at the moment thus keeping the beach and shoreline relatively very clean. Across from our resort, you could see the Islas Gigantes which can be reached by a 1-hour boat ride. Touring the Islas Gigantes can take the whole day but worthwhile. As I understand from our boat man, the island used to be a haven for dynamite fishing, that is why the coral reefs were destroyed. It was only a few years back when the inhabitants of the island were taught to stop dynamite fishing and gladly they listened. The reefs now are slowly coming back to life but not enough so that snorkeling and diving is available in the island. In fact, there are no dive shops yet in the island. Hopefully, underwater life will be restored in the near future.

We visited this island during an outreach program in 2017. I wasn't involved with the planning, but we did island-hopping and camped on the island. There's a kitchen in the island that offers food and can cook meals. They can also let you borrow utensils. Tents are also for rent. get in touch with them to arrange a tour or island-hopping experience. Folks here are friendly and accommodating, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Great place for a hide away. People are so great and accommodating on this island. It's a testament of "simple life is better." Lay back afternoons are one of the best while watching movies or your favorite shows on your tablet or phone.

From the Estancia port, take a boat to Sicogon Island that sails once a day only. So make sure to be at the port by 9 AM.

While on the island, take a walk on the shore, take a dip in the clear water of Buaya Beach. Ask permit from the barangay captain and trek and hike the mountain to see 360° of Sicogon. Have a view of the nearby towns and islands.
