DON'T GO HERE, GO TO THE NEW PORT INSTEAD. we made the mistake to go to this port as it was advised by our hotel (kikeys place) which is just 2 min walk. From what we experienced, this port is no longer that much in use, it is mostly used by local people. As a result, when we got there there were no more tourists(although there were many locals but it was not clear that they were waiting for a boat). The staff in the ticket office informed us that if we are not 15 people to travel (we were just 3 foreigners by that time), the journey would be cancelled. Otherwise, we could pay double price to travel either way. The boatman came to us after 2 minutes and he put a lot of pressure, almost threatening us that if we do not pay the 200php he doesn't know when we will travel as there come no people etc.. in the end we decided to pay it, it was not that much, but when we got on the boat we were 15 of us in the end, counting the Philippinos who were almost hiding until that time. As a conclusion, they were just trying to make tourists pay double price. There are also 2 small boats that you have to pay 20php each, one to bring you to the big boat from old maya port and one to take you from the big boat and leave you to malapascua. On our return from the island, we got the boat to the new poart and everything went really smooth and easy, no comparison to that experience we had in...
Read moreJust to add my experience as well. The fare is 100 PHP per person. The ferries (bancas) are scheduled every 30 minutes BUT, they must have at least 10 people to leave. If they don't, they will ask the existing passengers if they want to split the fare of the "missing" passengers, or wait for more. I wouldn't call this a scam per se, it really depends on how fast you want to get to the island. If no hurry, pay your 100 and wait. If in a hurry, consider paying the difference. Personally, I was happy with waiting. What I didn't like was having to pay an additional 20 php for a little flat bottom boat to take you from the banca to the beach once you arrive in Malapascua. Especially when you see the same size dive boats pull right up the beach to unload their passengers! So be prepared for this additional 20 php...
Read moreI just wanted to share my experience as it's completely different to everyone else.
Having read the previous reviews i had really hyped myself up..ready for the onslaught of people trying to rip me off..but literally came off my Ceres bus..Walked up to the payment area, paid my P100 and sat in the makeshift waiting area for the next boat. I waited 20 minutes before heading to the boat and arrived in Malapascua 30 minutes later, completely hassle free and totally surprised. I had no issues...
