I found Panglao island massively overrated. Alona beach is beautiful but the road to get down to it is overrun with trikes and vans and people trying to sell you tours. Same in the high street! Loads of building work going on at the moment so piles of rubbish everywhere, locals pissing openly in the streets (one of the few places in the Philippines that I saw often in Panglao) It's a good location to stay, where you can do island hopping, tours to Bohol, and lots of other things, but the town itself is not a nice place to spend time in. There's a good selection of restaurants and bars, not really any other shops though in the main part of town. There's also regular black outs with no power.. most places have generators but some don't. We had 2 days in one hotel with no power or water!? And this happens pretty much every week the hotel owner said. The place could be awesome, if instead of trying to build loads more hotels to make money.. money was put into infrastructure and making the town look nicer, cleaning it up. Considering how many tourists were here I was just surprised at how trashed the town was itself. There are many other nicer places in the...

You can then escape to the Northern side of the island to escape the tourists and chill out on Momo beach and snorkel. You can also step away from the beach and check out the native tarsier primate species or spot the...
