The trip is worth it! It's about 45minutes from the port of Kawayan, Biliran. The waters aren't that rough so the trip isn't tiring. The fares though is a bit pricey but the destination is worth it. The waters are so clear that you can see the sea floor even without goggles on and it isn't too salty so it won't sting your eyes much. The view from the hilltop is spectacular! The locals are nice, too. If you'll be heading there best to bring your own food, a butane so you can cook your food on your own without too much hassle. You can grill, too. The sand is mostly seashells and dead corals so it's rough on the soles. Also the sea bed is rocky so be prepared with some aquatic shoes if you have a pair. I forgot to bring mine on the trip so it was a bit of a challebge but it was tolerable. They have cottages already unlike before and they have a gen set that is turned on by 6pm and then off by 10pm.

Sambawan Island, Maripipi has a stark, mountainous coastline and a spectacular sunrise, a stunningly beautiful view, which will surely melt your heart. Viewed from a distance, Sambawan island with its towering rocks; is a series of interconnecting stony islets. It has two main islands and the rocky terrain is covered with grass. Along the shore lines, Talisay trees are being planted. Sambawan island is a marine sanctuary and a popular dive site. It has an extensive wealth of marine life, good visibility and corals that are in good condition. Turtles, sea snakes and reef sharks are also found there often. Current is mild and suitable for all range of divers. A watch tower is built at the highest point to give the tourists unencumbered view of the entire island. It serves as viewdeck to witness the spectacular sunrise and the glorious sunset. Both, which can surely melt your heart.

Mesmerizing cristal clear water Can organize for diving, can rent a sup, can book to stay overnight in a bungalow or tent. Byo drinks/food/.. as the cafè there hasn't got much more than chips, coffee, water, soft drinks. Ones in Kawayan ask for Ms Malò, she will direct you. We took our boat early the next morning and came back in the afternoon. Alternatively you can take a public boat from Naval to Maripipi and then hop in here. Will remember this island for ever ✌ ❤

Pictures sometimes are better than the reality. The beach is coral or stone, not fine sand. Not much to see under the water. Like in other places in the Philippines, you have to pay a small fee. 100 pesos If I remember well. It's to help preserving. But there is plastic in the island. They can easily put fines or sign to inform or make it a no plastic island. It's so small that it's possible to do. The workers are just sitting there and not cleaning the island. They could turn and work one hour each every day to take the plastic from all around the island. Similar to Apo island close to Dumaguete. Tourist will...
