Faias de São Lourenço — Local services in Manteigas

Look here for route details. I found it difficult to find details on English prior to my arrival. Google directions wanted me to drive down the access road, which is limited to park vehicles only. The trailhead is at this marker and follows an access road, so it is quite wide. The round-trip hike took me 1h, 40 min with a few 5-10 minute breaks and a 15 min detour down the wrong path. The sign indicates 3 hours. From the trailhead, follow the access road, staying to the left and up the hill. At the top of the mountain is a chapel, some signage and descriptions, a bench, beautiful 400 year old oak trees. The trail continues along the ridge. You'll come to a white lighthouse looking building. Stay straight here and eventually you'll see markers on the ground for Rt 14/15. This is the trickiest part of the trail. The markers are clear after this. You'll meander downhill, through the beech forest. It was primarily green in mid-October with a couple yellow trees. Very pretty. The trail is marked as medium, same as Poco do Inferno. Poco do Inferno is significantly harder (uneven, narrow, rock scrambles, difficult to find the trail)..Yes this trail climbs a mountain but...

Don't miss this trail! You will find it the most spectacular during the autumn (November). That's when the beechwood trees shine with their yellow leaves. This circular trail isn't very hard although you'll find a steep climb at the beginning. That is if you choose to do it clockwise, the way I would recommend. Start by checking out the views towards the nearby village of Manteigas, the S. Lourenço Chapel, and the firewatch tower. When the trail turns to the left and you start to descent that is when you get to the highlight part of this trail! If you prefer to cut it short and skip a couple of uphill kilometres, take the left trail when you see a tiny wooden house and the sign "casa do leite" to go back to the starting...

Se existem lugares mágicos este é um deles seguramente 💚 Passeio a fazer com tempo sem pressas para nos deixarmos envolver pela natureza, desde os sons aos cheiros é toda uma experiência que devemos aproveitar ao máximo 😃 Esta rota é bonita todo o ano mas no outono então é fantástica com um banho de cores lindas 🧡 Leve calçado confortável pois vai caminhar bastante, um bastão de caminhada é capaz de ser útil 😅 e não se esqueça de levar água 👍 Era bom que o percurso estivesse mais bem identificado, por vezes, nas bifurcações não é fácil perceber qual o caminho que devemos escolher tanto em dificuldade como em distância 🤔😏 Recomendo a visita não se vão...
