The mountains are located north of Romania's Jiu Valley, in the Hunedoara and Alba counties. They border the Cindrel Mountains to the east and the Lotru Mountains to the southeast.

Amazing place! The ski slopes are very wide and not steep. Perfect choice if you want to learn to ski or snowboard. I would like to visit Sureanu also during summertime. There is also a beautiful lake - Oasa Lake. Reccomendation for winter - bring snow chains. You need to drive to the ski slopes because most of the cabins are 2 or 5 km away.

Munți de o frumusețe deosebită, ușor accesibili și celor mai puțin antrenați datorită faptului că, deși sunt relativ înalți ( Vârful lui Pătru are 2130 m, Vârful Șureanu are 2059 m ) nu sunt deloc abrupți, au practic pășuni până în vârf, cu alte cuvinte sunt abordabili pentru oricine. Iar, pentru cei mai leneși,trebuie precizat că, cu o mașină 4X4 se poate urca aproape până pe vârfuri. Peisajele sunt absolut superbe, nu degeaba locul este numit "Elveția estului". Iarna se poate skia în bune conditiuni, de câțiva ani fiind amenajat un domeniu skiabil foarte OK.

Partile super merita 5 stele nu am prins foarte aglomerat insa drumu plin de gropi,portiuni de drum unde nu incap 2 masini un drum care lasa de dorit plus ca trebuie sa fi sigur ca ai cauciucuri de iarna bune si lanturile pregatite in caz ca ai nevoie..!!

Great for winter sports, medium prices(arround 1.5 eur for 1 teleski lifting, double for chairs) but marvelous landscapes. you may have it difficult to reach during winter without chains...
