It is the 3rd highest peak in Romania. We had to climb it so we could get to Moldoveanu peak, coming from Valea Rea. The climb from Portita Vistei to the top of Vistea Mare was definitely the toughest of the day. The views from the top are amazing; they are worth every effort one makes to get here. I started the day with the desire to reach Moldoveanu. But I got to taste the water, breath the air and enjoy the views of the area, and these are so much better than the feeling of accomplishment you get from getting to Moldoveanu.

Un vârf deosebit de frumos și urcarea până la el din șaua Viștei te solicită un pic, cât să simți că urci pe al treilea cel mai înalt vârf din România - 2527 m. Însă pentru faptul că acest vârf reprezintă pentru cei mai mulți doar o pauză intermediară înspre vârful Moldoveanu, de cele mai multe ori este omis sau ignorat, cum se întâmplă și cu Cornul Caltunului, considerat o prelungire mai abrupta a vârfului Lespezi.

Când ai ajuns pe Viștea Mare știi că mai ai un pas până la Moldoveanu. Ruta Valea Viștei e de vis!!! Priveliște e superbă. Numai bună de luat niște cadre cu Valea rea, iezerul triunghiular și vârful Moldoveanu la un loc. Viștea Mare este clasat al treilea între cele mai înalte vârfuri muntoase din România, după Moldoveanu, (2.544 m) și Negoiu, (2.535 m), ambele fiind situate în același masiv.

Its actually a nice peak to climb, next to the Moldoveanu. If it rains, the whole path turns into a river. Only 20 minutes to the top and 30 to the vistea...
