Mănăstirea Sfântul Ioan Iacob "Corlăţeni" — Local services in Pojorâta

It is a piece of heaven! Literally and physically. There is 1 km from the main road, with asphalt, to the monastery. But, pay attention: the road is climbing in an 20° ore more angles and has the name of Golgota's Road or Calvary and aside the road there are pictures with events from the Passion of the Christ. You can go to the monastery with the car but you need a 4 wheel drive or the car to be very easy loaded - 1 or 2 passenger. The beauty, for a Christian is to go by foot and yes, if you have some extra-kilo's it is a Calvary! The monastery is almost on top of the mountain and the view deserves every strop of sweat. You are in Heaven. The old monastery is printed in blue and is something unique, because is full of natural light, in opposite with other monasterys. You are not allowed to enter with shoes in the monastery because there are fine and very clean carpets on the floor. There are some slippers available for those who want. This rule is available also in the new monastery. The interior is splendid, the paintings are breath taking and very expressive. There is a shop where you can buy religious items and there is a dining room if you want to serve a meal. DEFINITELY DESERVE TO VISIT...

Cele două pisanii din biserica veche au următorul text: „Corlăţeanu Constantin ridică o cruce de fier cu postament de ciment spre lauda lui D-zeu, mărturie stă inscripţia de pe tabelele de aramă din postamentul crucii, către anul 1927 a fost sfinţită de către preoţii din împrejurimi. După 3 ani bătrânul Corlăţeanu are o vedenie în care însuşi Maica Domnului i se arată şi îi dăruieşte ca în acest loc să facă un altar de rugăciune, care după un timp scurt, ajutat de fiul său Ştefan şi o parte de credincioşi ridică un schit care a fost sfinţit de Mitropolitul Nectarie în anul 1934, aici au slujit călugări pînă în anul 1962 cînd au fost dimulat şi trasportat în com. Voroneţ unde a fost ridicată o biserică pentru această parohie, iar o parte din obiectele de cult au fost luate de către m-rea Putna. Înainte de dimularea schitului în anul 1957 bătrînul ctitor în vîrstă de 96 de ani pleacă în locul de veci mulţumit în suflet de faptele făcute în slujba lui D-zeu. Amin. ” „După dimularea schitului, populaţia de pe aceste meleaguri, simţind lipsa schitului au ridicat în anul 1966 o capelă împrejmuind crucea care mai rămăsese, cu speranţa că se va putea face cîte o slujbă de preotul parohiei dar fiindcă nu se poate fără a fi un altar sfinţit de a se slujii, ne-am hotărît de a mării încăperea făcînd şi sf. altar aşa după cum se vede actualul schit şi care s-a înzestrat de către credincioşii care î-l vizitează şi rămîne ca cît timp va dăinui acest schit să rămînă deschis pentru toate cultele bisericeşti în spre folosul şi lauda lui Dumnezeu în veci Amin. Vă muţumim şi D-zeu să vă răsplătească tuturor acelora care a-ţi contribuit cu orice fel de ajutoare în spre lauda lui D-zeu. Credinţa te va mîntui. Noiembrie 1969....

The view is truly stunning, it feels like you are on top of the world. The monks are welcoming. There are two churches, the old blue one which you can see as you first come in and the newer one which you can access by climbing up the stairs. In terms of the road, it is quite challenging, I would recommend you don't attempt it without a 4×4. It is very beautiful though going through the forest and there are little resting places across the path if you're planning...
