Stunning national park. We went during low season at the end of October 2016 and stopped at the NP visitor center for some additional recommendations after our original plans to do a day hike to La Om. We were cautioned to do a shorter version to the Ascutit shelter (and even then the guides were wary of our time constraints) because of the snow. We consider ourselves to be in fairly good shape, and the round trip hike from the bottom to Ascutit took about 10.5 hours with snack breaks. I will definitely say this hike is not for the faint of heart. There was a considerable amount of snow, very poor visibility at times, and strong gusting winds at the ridge. For anyone with a severe fear of heights, I would think twice. There was one portion where you have to scale a walk with only a metal wire, and I considered on numerous occasions just turning around. We were the only hikers out that day, likely due to the weather, but what you are rewarded with is a gorgeous forest, views when the clouds clear, and a national park all to yourself. A huge highlight of our trip and highly recommended for any adventurous travelers out there! Just plan accordingly with the weather. *Last bit of advice: don't stray from the posted path, especially in the open field, as it can easily direct you into the path of very aggressive sheep dogs. From very unfortunate personal experience that resulted in a thankfully superficial dog bite because I was wearing multiple pants layers, these are HIGHLY aggressive animals and will attack you.

Piatra Craiului, aka, The Crai, means the Rock of the Prince. The mountain is located near the town of Zarnesti and it is between Bucegi National Park and Fagaras Mountain. The whole mountain of The Crai belongs to a National Park that spans an area of 15,000 hectares. Its highest peak, Varful La Om, lies at 2,238m. The ridge of the mountain may be only 25klm long, but the terrain is rocky, steap and dangerous. The mountain's ridge has spikes and the path that goes across the ridge goes up and down until Ascutit shelter. The Crai is one of the most beautiful mountains of Romania and a unique site. Take extra care while walking on the ridge.

Amazing views! Tourists can choose between easy trails and difficult ones, starting point Zarnesti town. Prăpăstiile Zarnestiilor or the Zarnesti Gorges is a beautiful natural reserve, can be done in a 1 hour easy walk through forest paths and rocky bend walls. Also if you look for a longer hike try the trail to Cabana Curmatura- beautiful views and great traditional food- 2-3hrs of walking from Botorog Spring. On the other side of the mountain you can discover Plaiul Foii area with amazing panoramic views over the mountain.
