Having traveled through Vnukovo more often than I care to count, I feel compelled to finally offer a review and a tip or two on how to travel here: I actually do like the airport building and layout; from an architectural standpoint is quite well planned. Domestic and international terminals feel spacious and relatively friendly and one does not have to walk as far as on other Moscow Airports (Sheremetevo, Domodedovo).
This is however, where the good part ends. Unfortunately the infrastructure outside of the airport cannot keep up with the building itself. I rarely have a trip when I'm not running into some kind of delay. If it is not a walkway arriving 15 Minutes late at the aircraft, it is the bus who's doors suddenly won't open or something similar. When you park at an outside position and have to take the bus to/from the building you will experience too narrow walkways for passengers, driveways in horrible state of repair (bus drivers have to go extremely slow in order not to damage their vehicles on the numerous potholes) and things generally give an impression of not being well run.
The same is true for the building itself. If you change over the transfer desk between domestic and international terminals, it is sometimes very quick...and sometimes there are 200 people waiting in front of the passport control with 2 counters open and a single passport check taking up to 10 minutes (yes, I took the time). Once or twice I've had situations escalate close to a fight since there are no waiting lines and often no personnel to keep order. It is often faster to change terminal by going over the main entrance hall (insider tip: despite the signs, all passport control counters accept international passports, if in a hurry, take the left most for diplomats).
Avoid the toilets, if you can - since smoking was forbidden in official Russian buildings, they are more of a unofficial, dirty smoking place than anything else. If you must use toilets, walk to the end of the repective terminals, the facilities are much less frequented there.
Passenger announcements (written and oral) are often made only in Russian and more often than not an inquiry in English will only earn a blank stare. Even in the international part English is not commonly spoken by personnel. It is also not possible to completely depend on screen announcements, I've boarded delayed flights through gates, showing neither the delay nor the actual boarding flight.
On the upside, there is free wifi now (though the login is strange, it's slow and does not work always) and that there are some ok shops (most even take credit cards). Also both, domestic and international terminals now have areas for kids to play (though they are not free).
I've been to worse airports (in India, South America), but not many and none were people were less friendly and forthcoming than here.
So unfortunately while being a nice airport building Vnukovo is so badly run, that I'd personally go to some length in order...
Read moreRest wasn't a good idea from the start... ...but everything in order. We chose a hotel in Egypt to fly out of Domodedovo Airport. Because from our city, this airport is the easiest to get to, to fly to Charm. Should have been with Colavia, now Tui, by the way, the tour operator with whom we went on vacation was Mostrevel, now Tui.
As usual, the day before departure, we came to the agency to collect vouchers, electronic tickets, but here we were disappointed... we're told your flight was moved from 3:00 to 6:30 and the airport of departure was also moved to Vnukovo.
Explaining that Colavia's plane broke down... Well, there is nothing you can do, these are charters, you can expect anything, by the way, running a little ahead, driving a car, at Vnukovo left it in the parking lot, and flew from Sharm, at one o'clock in the morning to your favorite airport Domodedovo.
Actually, it's about Vnukovo. I heard they built a new terminal there... but I didn't see it in my eyes, and we flew out of Terminal B. It's certainly hard to describe in words... I was very reminded, waiting for the station, no small city. There is no place to sit at all!
No need to lie, chairs 15 all the same there is) If you arrived at the airport hours 6 hours before departure, it will be very difficult to hold out. There are cafes, prices are high, just like at any airport. For example, you bought 3 samsas - for 500 rubles... 0.5 water. Usual, without gas 80r, it's already after passing all inspections.
At the entrance to the building is a metal detector, after the terrorist attack, in Domodedovo, they were put everywhere, well, this is certainly good. By the way, the belts and shoes were not taken off. Well, that's kind of what the new rules say. Although the girl, in very high heels, was asked to take off her shoes.
There's not enough toilets for so many people. There were crowds in the building, there were a lot of charters, for example. There were 200 people on our plane - for 2 check-in desks, and so crowds 4 were 200-300 people. There were no chairs and it was felt in the crowd.
I've heard a lot of people stealing things from their luggage at this very airport, luckily we didn't have such a thing, so I can't say anything bad about it.
I bet 3 for security, because I compare it with the checks at Domodedovo airport, and I thought it was much better there.
Of course, there were negative impressions about the beginning of the holiday, but...
Read moreThis is one of the worst airport I have ever been in my life . The staffs at airport specially at the Immigration totally ruined my excitement of visiting Russia. First and Foremost if your country is so forward why even the Immigration staffs don't know "English" ? Are we supposed to learn your language before visiting your country? What sort of attitude and arrogance do the people at Immigration have ? I have never in my life been spoken so rudely by any staffs at any of the airports for no reason at all .
Me ,my dad & my brother we passed the Immigration and the lady at Immigration stopped my mom and sister. Without questioning we waited at the luggage area for nearly 25 mins . We had no local Sims or any mode of communication. After a long wait of 45 mins I finally went to the Immigration area to ask why they had been stopped to which the staffs replied "we don't owe you an explanation" like WOW . THIS is how you welcome someone to your country and even after me telling her that I just need to know the reason or if I should wait or leave as we had no clue what had happened she continually was behaving in a very inappropriate manner .
Big Thumsdown to the airport staff for totally ruining my excitement and spoiling our mood even before we started our vacation.
I really wish those ladies come to Nepal and we show them or rather teach them how to behave/talk to passengers who with so much excitement and plans come to visit a new country and And been treated like nothing like literally nothing. I can go on writing about my experience because I cannot take the way they behave with all of us that to without any reason . We respect the rules, we respect safety, we respect terms and conditions but this is no way to talk or behave with someone who is new to your place. This was literally harassing someone for no reason.
