We had a beautifull stay here in the Kitabi Eco-Center. The views are gorgious. Overall the lodge is a little basic but all the necesarry services are provided and the people are verry kind. Location this close to the Nyungwe NP is a huge bonus. During our stay there was another family in the lodge, who also wrote a review, that complained about everything. Esther Konijn and Mitchel Wubben gave this place a 1 star review. The reasons they posted were 100% untrue as the water was only gone for 10 minutes, which the staff fixed right away. There were shower and they worked properly, just not warm but that isn’t advertised in on the website either. Bottled water seems the best option in a country where drinking tap water isn’t a great idea. Beds are very comfortable. No wifi is true but this is also not advertised on the website. Also they are making claims about where the money goes but quite frankly, they have absolutelly no clue of where it goes. Don’t let some of the negative reviews hold you back on booking this amazing place. Some people just can’t appreciate going back to basic. Had an amazing 2 nights in this place!

Wonderful accommodation on the edge of the Nyungwe national forest. I cannot recommend this place enough! The views of the tea plantations in the morning are amazing. We got here from Kigali with public transport: one matatu from Kigali to Huye and one coach from Huye to Kitabi. The driver dropped us off right by the entrance of the Kitabi Eco-Center. We camped here in our own tents - the cost for a night was 13,500 RWF per tent (not person) per night. Dinner was an additional 5,000 RWF. I would generally advise you to bring your own food if you're on a shoestring but let me just say homemade pizza in a real pizza oven? It's worth it. Bonus point for the staff who gave is hot water bottles for the night as it gets real cold at night. The shower is a bucket shower like in most places in Rwanda but again, the water is hot so that's a plus. In the morning, you can arrange a boda boda to the Uwinka entrance for 6,000 RWF one way. On our way back we hitched a ride back to the center.

I was travelling with a small group, visiting local schools, and we stayed here for almost a week. It's a fabulous location, with amazing views exactly as they describe, over the forest and surrounding hills. We were not blessed with great weather, but that gave us even more atmosphere, with mist gathering in the valleys. There were 4 of us in the King's Palace hut, and we had plenty of space. The design inside allows a little privacy, although that also made it a challenge to find the door in the dark without tripping over something! (I would bring a torch next time). The toilets and showers were in a separate hut, and were nice and clean, although didn't always have hot water. The staff were wonderful, and looked after us really well, helping us with everything we needed. There was a great selection for breakfast, which was plentiful, with excellent coffee, and a good choice for evening meals too. The weather forced us to spend a lot of time there during the day, and we enjoyed a few good lunches as well. It got cold, especially in the evening, but fires were brought in to the main area, and hot water bottles available. We went on a terrific hike, guided by 2 of the staff, who shared their extensive knowledge of the forest and surrounding area. (It was billed as 5km, but we reckoned it was nearer 15km, with a lot of climbing up and down hills - but well worth the effort). I would definitely look forward to staying...

Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible for me to recommend this place.

We arrived after dark and were expecting to stay in a basic hut, but were told that they didn't have a room for us. (Mind you, I was already charged 45 USD for this hut we were supposed to stay in). We were then put in the workers quarters, which basically had no facilities and were cold and uncomfortable. I understand that the staff had little to no other choice regarding where to put us, but given the fact that THEY messed up the booking and then stuck us in an uncomfortable staff room, they should NOT have charged us.

Yet, we were still charged 20 USD for this horrible room! On top of that, we were charged another 22 USD for a basic, not great pizza meal that we were under the impression was included in the price we were paying. I've paid less for a fancy meal in Kigali!

The staff was VERY nice and friendly, but overall we were incredibly disappointed with how our situation was handled. Now, I have to make an effort to make sure they don't charge me twice since they made us pay in cash when we were there even though we had already been charged on our card.

HIGHLY disappointed with our...
